This letter K beginning sounds and handwriting activity includes real photographs to practice learning to recognize, write and identify the sound of the letter L. Each picture has bold colors and includes easily recognized pictures. Each activity can be used in a literacy center for students to practice letter recognition. What is Included: There is an instructional page with printing instructions. There are letter L posters with various letter L words. There are handwriting task cards that allow students to practice writing the letter L as well as words that begin with the letter L. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter L. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that begins with K from words that do not begin with L. The letter K sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. These activities make great morning tub activities. Just place these activities in morning bins for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Skills Assessed: These activities assess letter recognition skills, beginning sounds, handwriting, and sorting skills. Each activity in this set is low prep. The seek and find page practices letter recognition by having students identify capital and lowercase forms of the letter. The find and color page practices letter recognition of the target letter from other letters of the alphabet. Students can use dot markers to mark the letters, they can color in the letter or use stickers to cover the letters. Here is a fun, print 'n play phonic game for the split digraph a-e! Help your pupils to grasp the tricky split digraph concept as they play! Who is the a-e game suitable for? All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound, will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two or three players, one of whom should be an adult. The game can be played with either pictures or sounds. Each player takes a game board (either pictures or sounds) which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The adult reads a word on the word card, and the pupils must listen for 'e' or no 'e'? If the pupil has the sound/ picture on his/her board, she/he covers up a space. the winner fills hi/her board first. Teaching tips: Help children to hear the vowel sound by emphasising it and stretching it out. Help the child to do this as well. Have fun - as this eases children over those tricky spots! Students can practice reading comprehension skills with these AT word family mats. Students can practice reading AT words in isolation and in the context of sentences. The words in this set follow a CVC or CCVC spelling pattern. Included in this resource: This resource includes one word mat and one sentence mat, both for reading AT words in insolation and in context. There are also picture cards that correspond with each word and sentence. To complete this activity , students will read each AT word or sentence on the mat and then match the corresponding pictures. Students can work independently or with a partner to complete this activity . How to Use these AT word Family Mats: The students can simply lay the images on top of the word or sentence. Glue the head and body together and attach to a box (shoebox). Stick the tail to the other end of the box, so it can be seen just above the box. How to play: Muddle up and divide the bones equally between the number of children playing. Each child takes a turn to read a word from their pile. If they read the word correctly, everyone shouts “WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!” and the child slots it through the dogs mouth. However, if they read the word incorrectly, everyone shouts “Grrrr....” and the word bone has to go to the bottom of the child’s pile. The first child to feed all their bones to the dog is the winner.

This letter N beginning sounds and handwriting activity includes real photographs to practice learning to recognize, write and identify the sound of the letter N. What is Included: There is an instructional page with printing instructions. There are letter N posters with various letter N words. There are handwriting task cards that allow students to practice writing the letter N as well as words that begin with the letter N. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter N. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that begins with N from words that do not begin with N. The letter N sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. Beginning and Final Blends Flashcards with pictures A set of beginning and final blends with both letters and matching pictures. This set covers the following beginning blends: sw, sk, st, sp, sl, sn, sm, bl, be, cl, cr, dr, fr, fl, gr, gl, pl, pr, tr, tw And the following final blends: ft, lk, nd , nt, mp, st, lt, sk, nk This set of consonant blends flashcards contains the blends a child will most likely need for their current reading/spelling level, if they are just learning to hear four sounds in a word with a short vowel sound. Once a child meets more advanced vocabulary, the child’s ability to decode will be such that they will no longer need consonant blends flashcards - the skill will be more or less automatic. A child does not need to know every consonant blend by heart. What is needed is the ability to hear the two sounds in a blend to spell and to blend two consonants to read. Phonemic awareness of the blends is a good place to start. How to use the Beginning and Final Blends Flashcards with pictures: ·If you print the letters and their matching pictures back to back, you will have a set of self-correcting cards with which a child can practice reading the consonant blends. ·If you print the letters and pictures separately, then you can let the child match letters to pictures, selecting just as many as the child can cope with, at a given time. For some children, learning the consonant blends is not an easy skill, so it may be advisable, once the child has an idea of what is needed, to move on to the next skill, as there will be plenty of opportunities to practice the blends as the child progresses through a phonic programme.
