These letter V playdough mats allow students to build those fine motor muscles while learning about things that begin with the letter V. Each mat features an easy to recognize picture of a word that starts with V for students to use playdough to create. These mats are suitable to preschoolers and kindergartners who are learning about the initial sound of the letter V and those who need extra practice building up their fine motor skills. There are 3 different playdough mats in this set: V is for vine. V is for violin. V is for vase. Students can build their creations on the table top or directly on the playdough mat if laminated or placed in page protectors. When to Use Fine Motor Center Playdough Center Alphabet Center Literacy Center Independent Activity Small Group Activity Morning Tub or Basket Activity Table Top Activity Skills Assessed Fine Motor Skills Color Matching Beginning Sounds Letter Recognition The playdough mats themselves are no prep. The teacher will simply print them out, and laminate them if desired and place them in the appropriate center or activity area. All that needs to be added to this activity is different colored playdough or clay. These mats not only provide a fun and engaging activity for students to practice fine motor skills, they also provide a way for students to associate the initial sound of the letter V to recognizable pictures. Teachers will love the easy set up for this center activity. By laminating these pages, teachers will have a reusable playdough center for students to use over and over. The playdough should not stick to the laminated pages. If laminating is not an option, I would recommend placing the playdough mats inside of page protectors or in plastic sleeves. The playdough will not stick to their surfaces as well.

Here is a simple phonic game to help children distinguish between the sounds F, V and TH. Many children struggle with the TH sound in speech and when spelling. In fact, part of this is the difficulty many children have in saying TH. This game can help. Objectives: ·to help the child to distinguish between the sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' in speech and in spelling Who can use the ‘f', 'v' and 'th' game? Any who have a child needing extra practice learning the initial sounds ‘f', 'v' and 'th' Teachers Parents Home educators Private tutors It is highly suitable for special educational needs pupils It can be used with ESL pupils What is included? 18 picture cards (6 of each initial sounds 'm' and 'n') 2 baseboards All components come in either full colour of black and white. The eco print, black and white version is ideal for sending home for homework. Simple to make 1.Print out the pictures and cut them into individual cards. 2. Print out the baseboards. To Play: Do ensure before you begin that the child can correctly say both the blowy TH (as in moth) and the hard TH (as in the). Let your child watch you as you say them, and look in a mirror as s/he says them. 1. Each player takes a baseboard. Vary it each time so that the players get a turn with both sounds. 2. Take it in turns to choose a picture card. Say the word. What sound does it start with? Help the child to emphasise the initial sound if necessary. Let him/her look in a mirror to see the position of the lips and listen for a soft 'f' or a hard 'v'. If the picture belongs on the player’s board it is placed in position. If not it is returned face down. Encourage the other player to try and remember where it is for his/her next turn. This helps in the training of the memory. 3. Play passes to the other player who does the same - until one player completes his/her board. Play then ends and that player is the winner.

This Guided Reading Book - Shanghai (Level M) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. This marbles reading comprehension contains the following: Visualize on the Cover (Teacher Read Aloud Script) Start your lesson by taking a few moments to visualize the topic and share thoughts or feelings about it. Pre-Reading Trivia Students will write down one thing they already know about the subject and then read five more facts and discuss. These facts are fun, and the students will enjoy learning about the subject before reading more. Reading Passage The text is a high-interest reading passage with set paragraphs, roughly three to four paragraphs long. It contains a variety of themes about the topic, anywhere from history to technology. The passage is between 250 and 350 words in length. Mixed Questions The first question page contains four multiple-choice questions, each with a choice of four answers, and three written response questions that require a sentence or two from the student. Vocabulary Questions Practice seven key words from the text in this section across two activities. First section is scrambled words where students will unscramble three words given a clue for each. The second section is a word to meaning matching activity. Creative Writing In this question, the student will be required to write a five to eight sentence paragraph on a question related to the topic. Students can be guided to color each picture first and then cut the pages apart. There are two emergent reader pages for each printed page.
