OU OW Diphthong – Phonics Activity Packet
Vowel diphthongs ou and ow each get a complete practice strand: word lists, tracing pages, cut-and-paste picture matches, word-half matching, themed poems, story-writing prompts with word banks, front-and-back picture-word cards, ABC order, write-the-word and fill-in-the-word pages, crossword puzzles, Scrabble-style letter scoring, and word searches. An anchor chart opens the packet with positional spelling guidance — ou at the beginning or middle of words such as ouch, couch and scout; ow at the end of words such as cow and chow, and before a final n as in clown. Closing pages then mix the two spellings: students highlight ou and ow words in different colours in a playground poem, sort picture names on an ou-or-ow page, and record their learning on a KWL grid.
