This is a phonics AR game to help children, especially those with special needs, read words with the digraph 'AR'. Who can use this AR game? Any who need to use the digraph ar! But it is especially for those with special needs: games can take the pressure out of learning to read, especially for those who have become despondent or are reluctant for any reason. They are fun and take the child's mind off of the tedium, and winning is not dependent on their ability to read - it is the 'way the game goes'. What can it be used for? Why not send it home for homework? It can be used as a discrete form of assessment: is the pupil using knowledge of letter sounds , or GUESSING, which will lead to failure? What is included in the pack? Full instructions are given. The game comes in both black and white and colour versions. Children can be encouraged to colour the black-and-white version, and this will help the words in the 'ar' family to be established firmly in the child's mind. There are 3 boards with matching picture/word cards in both black and white and colour. Aim of the game: To help children to be able to sound out, or recognise, words with ‘ar’ in them, quickly. How to prepare the game: Choose either black and white or coloured. The children can colour the black and white boards, which will help to fix the words together in their minds as being in the same family. The game boards come in pairs: For each pair, choose one to be a board and cut the other up into individual picture/word cards. If only two people are playing, then they can choose which sets of pictures and cards they use. How to play: This is a game for two or three players. The teacher should watch if two children are playing together. Each player takes a game board. The matching letter/picture cards are scattered on the table face down. Players take it in turns to choose a card from the table. The child looks to see if s/he has the matching word or picture on his/her board. If so, the card is placed in position on the board. If not, it is returned to the pool on the table. The winner is the first person to complete his/her board. Teaching tips: Support children to sound words out/blend them as needed. Anxiety can be difficult for children to manage and express. This “Anxiety Bingo” game provides a unique outlet for kids to identify calming strategies that work for them when feelings of worry start to swell. With simple yet versatile bingo boards, it allows children to actively try different relaxation techniques to ease anxiety. The bingo boards have a standard 3x3 layout with 9 different soothing strategies listed, like taking deep breaths, getting a drink of water, hugging a stuffed animal, positive self talk, or writing down your feelings. Children can use the given calming strategies or they can make their own custom bingo board and write down things that help them feel better. Once the child tries a technique, they mark it off on their bingo board. The goal is to get 3 strategies in a row - just like regular bingo! This incentivizes them to keep practicing helpful skills. There are 2 full pages that you can copy as a 2-sided document. You can then either cut out each page (it will be double-sided with activities) or fold the 2-sided paper like a book. (There are directions on this resource.) There are 8 different pages for students to engage with. Here are the 8 pages of activities: Front cover with coloring picture and title. A "Fun Page" for kids to partner with someone and play tic, tac, toe, hangman, create an image from a doodle and the game of boxes. Friendship Strengths Snapshots-A page with 9 images of polaroid like pictures where members of a small group can all compliment each other on a treasured friendship quality each student possesses. Friendship Bingo Game-students will need to ask some questions about who also likes their favorite board game, candy, food, drink, animal, recess game, book, show, and color. In this activity the learner will be sorting COLORS and is a nice beginner activity for the early learner. It is also great to use with a learner who is more advanced but needs a quick activity that he/she can do independently free of errors. This activity that can help develop a learner's cognitive and perceptual abilities involves sorting colors. The activity can begin by providing the learner with a set of sorting cards that feature different colors (red, blue, green, yellow, etc.). The learner is then asked to sort the cards either by color. For example, the teacher might show the learner a green card and ask the learner to sort all the green cards into one pile, or all the red cards into another pile. The activity can be tailored to the learner's level of ability, gradually introducing more complex colors as the learner becomes more adept at sorting. For younger learners, the cards can feature primary colors, while older learners can be challenged with a more wider range of colors. This activity can be conducted individually or in a group setting, allowing learners to learn from each other and collaborate as they work through the sorting process. It is also a fun and engaging way for learners to develop their sorting skills, which can have practical applications in a variety of fields such as science, engineering, and computer programming.
