Long and Short A: Follow the Vocab Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game After the front slide the game begins. First rounds are easier with less pictures. Later rounds are harder with up to 9 pictures at the end. Teams will take it in turns to answer. Gameplay Taking round 1 as an example. Three pictures are shown. After 10-15 seconds they will disappear. Students are to try and follow at least one of these pictures. Click the go button to begin. The three pictures will mix between themselves and end in a different position. Team A goes first. Anybody in the team can answer. Say the number and then the word. Click on the card to see if the answer is correct - 1 point per correct answer. After Team A have answered. Offer the chance for Team B and subsequently C, D etc in order. to answer. Attempt to get all of the cards answered before moving on. Click on the arrow to continue to round 2 . If you ever need to replay a round, you can press the refresh button on the left side. As the game goes on, you may want to change the rules by allocating 2 words for each team to follow with bonus points if they can answer any other words. While the simulation is happening, everyone will be working on a three page reading comprehension task. Students will read about cultural norms from around the world (slurping noodles when eating in Japan or nodding one's head to say "no" in Bulgaria). Spiders, scientifically known as "arachnids," are fascinating to many people, especially kids. And there are so many different kinds. I learned a lot while creating this reading comprehension activities pack. Kids will read the article (link provided to the article inside product) and answer the questions. Many of the questions are fill in the blank, some are multiple choice, some true/false. There are also multiple essay question, writing prompts. And a bonus section for motivated students to look at what the Bible says about living things. Students will be given the opportunity to choose which side they are on regarding evolution vs creation, without judgment. They will be required to research and support the side they choose in their essays. Answer keys are included for the objective questions. The product is simple: 31 questions, including multiple choice, true/false, plus two short writing prompt type questions, one of which is partly subjective, but requires a thoughtful answer. Extra credit questions are included. 33 vocabulary words - can be used to increase student comprehension, increase scientific vocabulary, and can be used for alphabetizing and/or spelling tests. 8 Bible verse references - Bible as literature is an allowed subject in the public schools. Also, just looking up verses and drawing your own conclusions should align with standards. This activity is optional, of course. One bonus activity for students to write their thoughts on the 8 Bible verses. Two essay questions, one considered a "challenge." Can be used for extra motivated students or students who are trying to improve their grade. Of course, any writing a student does will build your writing fluency, especially when writing is done in a variety of fields, including, science, history, literature, etc. Answer keys for objective questions. My products are never grade specific, because students are at different levels even when they are at he same grade level in school. Probably 4th through high school would be the most appropriate. Alphabet Mats to Build A Letter

Get students excited avout learning letters with these hands-on alphabet mats! This alphabet activity uses different kinds of manipulatives or craft supplies to build each letter mats for a hands-on approach to practice letter recognition and formation. What is Included: There is one mat for each capital letter. There is one mat for each lowercase letter. There is one mat for each number 1-10. Ways to use these mats: Students can use pouch tops to build each letter. Students can use cotton balls or pom poms to create each letter. Students can stick stickers in each circle to fill in each letter. Students can use bingo dabbers to make each letter. Students can use mini erasers to fill in each letter. One thing I have done with these mats is to provide manipulatives that begin with the target letter for students to use to fill in each letter mat. This way, students are exposed to the letter's beginning sound as well as its shape and form. Turn the Mats into a Game! To make these mats a game, provide students with a die. The students will roll the die and, then the students will add the correct number of manipulatives to the letter mat until they build the entire letter. Where to Use: Literacy Centers - Simply place the mats and manipulatives in a literacy center for students to complete alone or with a partner. Morning Tubs or Baskets - Place these mats in a morning bin for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Quiet Time Activity - These mats can be used during a quiet time for students who do not nap, helping them stay engaged while their peers sleep. These alphabet mats are a no prep option for teachers to put in their literacy centers. The teacher simply needs to add the desired manipulatives that students will use to complete the mats.
