It includes three-digit products, one-digit divisors, and division with remainders. How to Use: Go over the first page together as a class. Review the definitions of multiplication, division, and estimating. Then complete the first word problem together- modelling the 4 steps: choose the operation, estimate, solve, and solve using an alternate method. Then you can let students work on the five other problems independently or in small groups. They could do some of the problems in class and a couple of them for homework. I have included a quick self- assessment at the end, so you can see which steps students are confident with and which are a bit more challenging. My students often struggle to think of an alternate method to solve the problem, so I can target some small group support for that skill. This product's purpose is twofold: 1) introduce students to the propaganda and beliefs Americans held during the Cold War, 2) to provide a viewing guide with Cold War connections for Rocky IV. The movie “Rocky IV” was made in 1985 during a period of the Cold War when tensions were boiling between the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR). The film pits the world-boxing champion Rocky Balboa (an American) against the Russian, Ivan Drago (supported by the Soviet Union). The movie reflects Cold War attitudes and many people consider it propaganda intended to portray the Soviet Union as evil and as cheaters. As students watch the movie, they will be asked to analyze some of the situations in the movie using thier “Cold War” glasses (there are a total of five Cold War connections). The movie is more than just a boxing drama; it is a movie about the major attitudes and beliefs Americans held during the Cold War. In short, the movie encapsulates some of the fears that Americans held about the Soviet Union. Lastly, after the movie you will be asked to make some connections to the Cold War conflicts and to use supporting evidence from the movie to justify your answers.

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TOMB BUILDING Help your students learn about the development of different Egyptian tombs from the earliest rock pit burials to the tombs of the Valley of the Kings. Students will learn about the different ways, and reasons, why tombs were constructed in different places and ways and for different reasons. PITS & MASTABAS Introduces students to natural mummification and burials in sands and rock pits. They then learn about the construction of Mastaba tombs during the early Old Kingdom period and their appearance/sizes. PYRAMIDS Students learn about the development of pyramid building during the reign of Djoser with the construction of the Step Pyramid at Saqqara. The section then covers the development in pyramid building under the pharaoh Snefru with the construction of the Bent, Medium, and Red pyramids. Students then learn about the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza and later pyramids built on the same site by his successors. Lastly they learn about the building of smaller mud-brick pyramids and the highly decorated pyramid of Unas. UNDERGROUND TOMBS Covers the First and Second Intermediate Periods when many older tombs were robbed and the decision by Egypt's rulers to begin burials underground in and around the Valley of the Kings during the New Kingdom period with the creation of large, highly decorated tombs. ACTIVITIES Students can work to create an illustrated timeline showing the history of tomb building. There is also an additional activity to help them learn about the different stages of the construction of the Great Pyramid. Students can also complete a fun crossword puzzle activity .
