Stuart Little Activity Character Webs

This product has students complete character webs for several characters in the novel Stuart Little, by E. B. White. This activity has students delve into the characters' traits. I would first do a lesson on what a character trait is. Make sure your students know there are positive traits as well as negative traits. You could have students complete the webs as you read the story, or you could wait until the end. In this novel there are five characters that students will look closer at. These characters are Stuart, George, Margalo, Snowbell, and Harriet. Even though this worksheet only has room for students just to write a word in each section, your class discussions could go in a lot more detail. Instead of just telling students to give you six words to describe a character, make them give you specific examples. For example, if a student says that Stuart is courageous, ask them a specific time in the story that Stuart shows courage. *It's important to note that these character webs should focus on character traits (ex: kind), not physical traits (ex: short). Make sure your students know the difference.

How to Play: * Single Player Game -- Students will use 1 die to roll. They will color in the number of spaces they rolled and keep going until they reach 100. They will have an opportunity to predict how many rolls it will take and then record the actual number of rolls they made. Students may need different colored crayons or markers to make it easier to count the number of rolls. * Two Player Game - Students can race to see who reaches 100 first by rolling their die and coloring in the appropriate spaces. Students may also take turns rolling on one game board, each coloring their rolls a different color, seeing who covered the most spaces. There are 2 pages for each number – The main worksheet and a page with puzzle pieces that need to be cut out and pasted on the worksheet. Each student will need a copy of both pages. There is also a “Back of Puzzle Pieces” page. This needs to be printed on the reverse side of all puzzle pieces pages. READ BELOW! Do your students come in from recess/specials/an assembly/any activity out of the norm all sorts of hyped out and out of control? This is the PERFECT activity to get them to calm-down and transition productively! With TONS of different designs to choose from- each student can pick out a picture that speaks to them! You can laminate each student's page or place them in a protective sheet so that they can stay nicely in their desks. Display the directions on the board or have them printed-out on large poster paper. Teaching the "Trace and Breathe" skill is essential to providing your students a structured way to practice mindfulness, control their heart rate and breathing, and transition from a high to a low-energy activity. The Trace and Breathe series can also be used as an essential piece to a calming corner in your classroom! Create a comfortable, calm space where your students can go when they need to cool down. Teach expectations around when it is appropriate for students to use this corner in the beginning of the year. Then, create a binder with lots of different designs the students can choose from. Place the directions to the Trace and Breathe activity on the wall near the calming corner. Then, as needed, students can visit the calming corner, pull-out the Trace and Breathe binder, pick a design that speaks to them, and engage in a moment of meaningful mindfulness!
