5-Paragraph Essay Outline with Instructions
A seven-step instructional guide — "Your 5-Paragraph Essay Game Plan" — walks students through understanding the assignment, brainstorming, drafting a thesis statement, structuring the five paragraphs, filling in outline details, reviewing the plan, and using the finished outline while writing. It then explains why the format is useful, citing its clear structure, organization, focus, and manageability as a stepping stone toward longer essays. The outline template itself provides a Roman-numeral structure — I. Introduction (with a hook, background, and thesis statement), II. Body (three lettered sections, A, B, and C, each for one supporting idea with topic sentence, evidence, and analysis), and III. Conclusion (restated thesis, summary, and final thought) — with ruled blank lines under each prompt for students to write directly on the page.
