Archaeology Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Archaeology Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Archaeology Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this archaeology puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our ancient civilizations unit. The kids were fascinated by the idea of digging up the past and finding lost cities, but they had no idea what words like artifact , excavation , or ruins meant when we started talking about how archaeologists learn about ancient peoples . They also kept mixing up terms like "site" and "dig" and couldn't explain what a grid was for. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using basic archaeological vocabulary: archaeology, excavation, site, artifact, fossil, ruin, grid, stratum, trowel, brush, map, dating, radiocarbon, museum, and preservation. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "excavation" or whether a fossil and an artifact are the same thing (they're not — artifacts are human-made objects, fossils are remains of living things, and the kids always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a picture of an excavation site with a grid, a trowel, and a brush nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see what these things actually look like. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw an archaeologist's tool kit on the back and label each tool. The kids actually ask for these now.

Parts of a Seed word search, scramble and crossword ⭐I made this parts of a seed puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our plants unit. The kids could say "seed" but had no idea what was inside or how it grew. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like seed coat, embryo, endosperm, root, shoot, germinate, cotyledon, and sprout. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help them remember the parts. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they mix up "cotyledon" and "endosperm" a lot. The crossword I use for partners. I added a simple labeled seed drawing but nothing too busy. Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a tiny seed and label its parts on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Measurement Weight word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this measurement weight puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our math unit. The kids could hold something heavy or light but had no idea what ounces, pounds, grams, or kilograms were for measuring weight. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like weight, heavy, light, mass, ounce, pound, ton, gram, kilogram, scale, balance, compare, estimate, and measure. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the weight measurement vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a pound is heavier than a kilogram. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple scale and balance drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Grade 5 Persuasive Writing word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this persuasive writing puzzle set for my 5th graders during our writing unit. The kids could state an opinion but had no idea what words like claim, evidence, or counterargument meant when we started learning how to write a persuasive essay. They also kept mixing up "opinion" and "fact." So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like opinion, claim, reason, evidence, fact, example, persuade, convince, audience, counterargument, rebuttal, conclusion, powerful, and call to action . I also included a few like "thesis" and "hook" because they kept coming up when we talked about how to start an essay . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "counterargument" (it's a long one) or whether a claim is the same as an opinion (it's a statement, but the kids always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a persuasive writing anchor chart nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the structure of a persuasive essay . I added a couple simple speech bubble and megaphone drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write a claim about a school topic and one reason to support it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Financial Literacy Saving and Spending word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this financial literacy saving and spending puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our economics unit. The kids could count money but had no idea what words like save, spend, or budget meant when we started talking about how to manage money. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like save, spend, budget, goal, income, allowance, deposit, withdrawal, want, need, and plan . I also included a few like "interest" and "credit" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "allowance" (it's a tricky one) or whether a need and a want are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a simple budget chart or a list of needs and wants nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the difference . I added a couple simple piggy bank, coin, and dollar sign drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one savings goal they have on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Forensic Science Basics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Forensic Science Basics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Forensic Science Basics word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this forensic science puzzle set for my 4th and 5th graders during our crime scene investigation unit. The kids were obsessed with the idea of being detectives and solving mysteries, but they had no idea what words like crime scene , evidence , or witness actually meant in a scientific context . They also kept mixing up all the different jobs—who collects the evidence, who analyzes it, and who testifies in court . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using foundational terms like forensic science , suspect , victim , witness , physical evidence , trace evidence , chain of custody , fingerprints , ballistics , DNA , serology , autopsy , toxicology , investigation , interview , and crime lab . I also threw in a few key roles like CSI , forensic scientist , and medical examiner because they kept asking who does what at a crime scene . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick and to show them that forensic science is a real career path . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "toxicology" or whether a forensic scientist and a CSI are the same thing (they're not — CSI collects evidence, the forensic scientist analyzes it in the lab) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've done a mock crime scene investigation in class . I added a couple simple magnifying glass, fingerprint, and beaker drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one forensic job from the puzzles and write what they do on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
