The kids understood hundreds but got overwhelmed when I introduced thousands, ten thousands, and hundred thousands. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions, comma, period, place, value, digit, expanded form, standard form, word form, and greater than. Examples include 1,000, 10,000, 100,000, and numbers like 3,482 and 24,571. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the larger place value finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how many thousands are in ten thousand. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple place value chart and comma drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the number with digits for "five thousand two hundred eight" on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about what happens to price when supply is low. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple coin and store drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like architect, engineer, contractor, electrician, plumber, carpenter, blueprint, foundation, permit, inspector, and site manager. I also made sure to include "HVAC" and "green building" because they came up in our conversations about how modern buildings are designed to be sustainable and comfortable. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between an architect and an engineer or whether a contractor is the same as a builder. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like ecosystem, habitat, community, population, producer, consumer, decomposer, food chain, food web, predator, prey, and energy . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "ecosystem" or whether a decomposer is the same as a consumer (it's not—they always have opinions about it). French Food and Restaurants word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this French food and restaurant puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our French unit. The kids could name food in English but had no idea what words like pain, fromage, or eau meant when we started learning French food vocabulary. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like pain, fromage, eau, lait, jus, fruit, légume, viande, poisson, riz, pâtes, soupe, café, thé, restaurant, and menu. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the French food vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "pain" is bread or a pain. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple baguette, cheese, and water glass drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their favorite food and label it in French on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Sport Traditions Around the World word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this sport traditions around the world vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our global studies and physical education unit. The kids knew about soccer and basketball, but they had no idea what words like kabaddi, jai alai, or sepak takraw meant when we explored the many ways people play sports around the world. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like soccer, cricket, rugby, baseball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, kabaddi, jai alai, sepak takraw, hurling, and sumo. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the global sports vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether cricket and baseball are similar (they both use bats and balls but are very different—the kids always have opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked at pictures of different sports from around the world. I added a couple simple cricket bat, soccer ball, and sumo wrestler drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one sport from the puzzles and write its country of origin on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
