But it is especially for those with special needs: games can take the pressure out of learning to read, especially for those who have become despondent or are reluctant for any reason. They are fun and take the child's mind off of the tedium, and winning is not dependent on their ability to read - it is the 'way the game goes'. What can it be used for? Why not send it home for homework? It can be used as a discrete form of assessment: is the pupil using knowledge of letter sounds , or GUESSING, which will lead to failure? What is included in the pack? Full instructions are given. The game comes in both black and white and colour versions. Children can be encouraged to colour the black-and-white version, and this will help the words in the 'ar' family to be established firmly in the child's mind. There are 3 boards with matching picture/word cards in both black and white and colour. Aim of the game: To help children to be able to sound out, or recognise, words with ‘ar’ in them, quickly. How to prepare the game: Choose either black and white or coloured. This decodable reader helps young learners build fluency by practicing CVC words alongside basic sight words. Designed for kindergarten and first grade, the short story focuses on the AP word family, giving students repeated exposure and extra practice reading simple, phonics-based vocabulary in context. What is Included: This resource contains one emergent reader titled "In My Lap," which includes one cover page and five pages for students to color and read. How to Use: Students will color each page of the book, cut the pages apart, and then assemble the book, making sure the cover page is on top. The subsequent pages can be placed in any order and still be read with meaning. Use a stapler or tape to secure the pages together. The repetitive nature of each page allows students to have success with reading and gives them extra practice with target words! The story and sentences in the book contain simple sight words and words from the word family targeted. This makes them easy for beginning readers to have success with creating and reading each book. Other Uses for this Book: The teacher may create the book by coloring, laminating, and assembling. The last 2 pages include the pictures for students to cut out. These pictures are printed in color. Each page is focused on its own set of 3 sentences. Students will reach each sentence 3 times for fluency practice. Then students will use their cut out pictures to place the pictures in correct order. These pictures will represent the sentences they just read. At the bottom of the page, students will trace the spelling words. Here are the sentences included: Page 1: The boy is happy. He is holding the ball. The ball is big. Page 2: The girl is excited. She has a surprise in the box. It's a puppy. Page 3: The baby is crying. He is hungry. He wants mom to give him his bottle.
