Sorting What goes together FOOD

In this educational activity , the learner will be presented with a set of food items, such as lettuce, cheese, ham, bread, tomato, pickle, mustard, and mayonnaise, along with a picture card of a sandwich. The goal of the activity is for the learner to sort the food items that go together to make the sandwich. Other food in this activity is baked potato, hamburger, taco, spaghetti, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, hot dog First, provide the learner with the picture card of the sandwich, and ask them to identify the different food items that go together to make the sandwich. The learner can then sort the food items into groups based on their function in the sandwich, such as the bread, filling, and condiments. To make the activity more engaging, the educator can use real food items instead of picture cards, and ask the learner to physically assemble the sandwich. This will not only reinforce the learner's understanding but also provide a hands-on learning experience. Next you can introduce the different food cards and discuss their differences, such as their taste, texture, and nutritional value. Then present the various sorting cards for the different foods and discuss the various different foods that go with the food card. Some food cards may have some of the same sorting cards For example cheese might be on pizza, baked potato, hamburger and a sandwich which makes it a great time to discuss how the some foods fit in with other foods. Lastly you could discuss the importance of a balanced diet and how the different foods contribute to overall health and well-being. The learner can also be encouraged to come up with their own healthy sandwich combinations, using the knowledge they have gained from the activity . By engaging in hands-on sorting the learner can develop important cognitive skills such as attention to detail, observation, and reasoning. It is also easy to individualize and can be used in a group setting or one on one. This activity is easy to create and assemble. Print and laminate for many years of teaching and learning. Enjoy! "The Father of Modern Economics: Adam Smith" - A History Play

This is a great play to help introduce Adam Smith or characteristics of the Free Market system. The play focuses on the life of Adam Smith. It ends by focusing on his ideas for a Free Enterprise system and how it was different from the Mercantilist system of his day. This takes about 20 minutes to do. Plus, you will want to give some time to debrief. In my classes, I have my students take some time to write a journal reflection on what they learned while performing the play. Have fun! Which Essential Questions About History Are Most Important to You?

This lesson, Which Essential Questions About History are Most Important to You? is set up as an Anticipation Guide and is designed to prompt students to think about what they will be learning in an American history or social studies class, civics class, or government class. The questions allow students to connect to and think deeply about values, concepts, and issues. This is an excellent way to frontload concepts and ideas, especially for ELL and RSP students. This lesson can be used in 7th-12th grade classrooms. It is also designed to get students to talk with an adult and with each other. Anticipation Guides are generally used to help students develop a purpose for their reading, activate schema, or prior knowledge, and develop an interest in the topic. This anticipation guide can be used as an icebreaker at the beginning of the year or can be used at any point. The detailed lesson plan includes objectives and learning targets that are aligned with the Common Core Standards, specifically focusing on speaking and listening. In addition, it includes the anticipation guide, directions for how students will administer the anticipation guide with an adult family member or family friend, or neighbor, a reflection for students, as well as directions for how to share what they think with their classmates. Objectives Students will identify which essential questions about history, government, society, rights, responsibilities, etc. are important to them and reflect on why. They will then ask an adult in their family to identify which questions are important to them and why. Students will practice talking with their peers about their essential questions as an icebreaker to get to know their classmates. Learning Targets I can identify and explain which questions about society, government, and rights are important to me. I can discuss with an adult which questions are important to them and why.. This homework activity teaches students about the sectional differences between the different regions of the United States which grew during the 19th century. THE NORTH Students learn about the growth of factories and other industries and the importance of tariffs to protect against foreign competition. Also introduces students to the growing anti-slavery movement in many northern states. THE SOUTH Covers the major crops grown in the southern states and the importance of slave labor. Also explains southern opposition to tariffs which hurt their trading relations with other nations, especially Great Britain. THE WEST Teaches about the desire of many westerners to gain government funding for roads and canals as well as their opposition to the expansion of slavery into new territories. ACTIVITIES Students can work on a map activity to illustrate and summarize the different sectional differences (examples included in the file). There is also a small crossword activity which students can use to help them research through the reading sheets. PRESENTATION Includes a short Powerpoint presentation with images and enlarged reading sections to help guide teachers and students through the materials.
