3rd Grade Color by Code Math Worksheet - Place Value

Reviewing 3rd grade math standards is a must to help your students succeed. There are so many new concepts they have to learn throughout the year, but we really don't want them to forget what they've already learned. A fun way to get students practicing key concepts is to have math color pages. This math color by code has students look at numbers to determine which place a digit is in. It looks at ones, tens, and hundreds. While students should come to 3rd grade knowing this skill, I find it's helpful to have review. They color in the space based on the digit's place value. You may need to do a problem on the page with them, to make sure students understand how to complete it. When I do this with my students they always have to show their answer, and not just the color. I have students complete the problems in pencil and color around. Or, they can trace with a sharpie and color over that. If they only have the color, you won't know if they truly understand the skill. I have several of these worksheets , and I like to put them together in a quilt book to show math review throughout the school year.

Here is a quick no-prep game for any elementary classroom: Guess My Number! It helps teach place value, fractions, greater than/less than, logic and working memory skills. This product includes a one-page instruction sheet including the skills taught, different player configurations, rules, a sample round, and extension ideas. This game requires NO PREP and NO MATERIALS at all. Grades to Use With: This game can be used in any elementary classroom (grades K-8). It is great for the following uses: · - Morning/home-room warm-up · - TOC back-up activity · - To fill the 5 minutes before lunch or the end of the day · - As a reward for small-group or one-to-one tutoring Guess My Number Rules: Start with a range based on your students (ex: 1-20 for K, 1-100 for Gr 1-4, 1-200 for Gr 5-7). The teacher (or student if playing in pairs) thinks of a number in that range. The other student (or whole class) has exactly 5 questions of greater than or less than to narrow it down. After 5 questions, they must guess the number. Sample Round: T: I’m thinking of a number between 1-100. S1: Is it greater than 50? T: Yes. S2: Is it greater than 75? T: No. S3: Is it less than 60? T: No. S4: Is it less than 70? T: Yes. S5: Is it greater than 65? T: No This class has narrowed it down to between 60-65. Now they guess. (The number was 62.) Then choose one letter of the alphabet. Students get two minutes to think of a word for each category staring with that letter.

This file contains questions for 12 - 15 bingo games for 2nd grade math. Topics covered are: addition, subtraction, place value, money, patterns, properties of 2-D and 3-D figures months of the year, and spelling of numerals. There are lists of questions with an answer of 1, a list of questions with an answer of 2, etc. This way you can choose the questions that your students are ready for. Directions for Bingo Game 1. Have students make a 4 x 4 Bingo Board or pass out the included blank boards. Students will fill in the numbers 1 -16 in random order on their board. This way everyone will have all answers, but will have a different board. 2. As the teacher, you will choose the questions you ask, one question per number. Use a highlighter to mark the questions you ask. This way you will keep track and not repeat an answer. Each time you play Bingo, use a different color highlighter. 3. Ask about 8- 10 questions per game. You will usually have 5-6 students to bingo with this many questions, if you have at least 20 students. I give out a piece of candy for bingos. 4. You have enough questions for about 12-15 games .

Students attempt to make the largest (or smallest) decimal number possible as digits are generated one at a time! • This lesson can work for many grades: you can play just tenths all the way to millionths! • It's a simple game, but it encourages strategy and critical thinking. • A super way to reinforce decimal concepts such as ordering and rounding. • Complete instructions and a sample round are included. How to Play: 1) Choose which place value you will practice with your class from tenths to millionths. 2) For the first round, choose if students are making the smallest or largest number they can. 3) Assign 1 side of the counter as zero and the other will indicated rolling the die. 4) Flip the coin or counter. Students must choose where to put the digit or the zero. 5) IMPORTANT: Numbers can not be moved after they are placed. 6) Continue this pattern until all the digits have been filled. Survey your class to see who made the largest or smallest number! 7)Now you can complete all sorts of math tasks: Order the numbers your students made. Round the numbers to the nearest one, tenth, or hundredth. Convert some decimals to fractions. Read the numbers accurately aloud. Once you have played around with the. numbers, play a second round.
