Stop, Think, Choose – Self-Control SEL Game

In this resource, you will get a fun SEL game for students. This STOP THINK CHOOSE game is to help students practice slowing down when they are upset and thinking through their feelings and choices. There is a stop sign handout that all students receive and can take home. This can also be used as an SEL poster in the classroom to reference this strategy of Stopping (calming down and stopping what you are doing), Thinking (How do I and other feel right now?) and Choosing a safe and respectful choice. When students play the game, they will land on ice cream truck, car and stop spaces. The ice cream truck is for fun. The students will read the joke or "would you rather" question to the group and they will guess the answer or share their preferred choice of a "would you rather" question. The car spaces are for scenarios where students can walk it through the stop, think, and choose strategy. The stop sign spaces for for students to act out a motion, saying, or movement around the room activity and the person on their right will tell them to stop. Students will practice stopping right away. This is great practice for when teachers ask students to stop and they need to learn to stop right away in the moment. Lastly there is an extension handout for students to fill out that assesses if they understand the strategy. There are 24 car scenario cards and 24 ice cream truck cards for fun. There is an action needed for each space of the game. The game board is 8.5 by 11 inches but if you would like to enlarge the game board, this is possible using a copy machine and zooming to a larger size if needed. You just need game pieces and dice or an 8 sided die. SEL Boom Cards! What Is The Size Of The Feeling? With Audio

In this SEL Boom Deck, students will learn about the different sizes (intensity levels) of their feelings. One of the introduction slides uses the analogy of peppers that are mild, medium and hot so students can understand it is about the internal intensity levels they feel. There is a cute cat and dog that show different levels to anger and happy. There are 2 other slides that show the 3 degrees for scared and sad. There are 24 playing cards that follow and here are some of the examples that are in this deck; a child is unhappy with dinner and cries, a girl falls down and hurts herself, a boy is annoyed with someone hogging the drinking fountain, 2 brothers mad at each other for not getting to go to dinner because they argued, a boy napping on a couch, a girl reading contentedly, a boy and his family looking at space through. a telescope, a boy bothered because his friend did not want to play what he wants to play, a girl feeling scared about performing in a play and many more examples. They are all child friendly and young students can relate to them. You can utilize this product as a whole classroom lesson, a small group, centers , or an individual counseling lesson. This product is related to the CASEL Framework goals of self-awareness and self-management. Discussion around what to do with a really BIG feeling can enhance this Boom Deck and asking students to think of different strategies will also offer them tools when they are experiencing BIG feelings. This downloadable PDF is an educational activity that involves sorting non-identical animals. Why we teach sorting and grouping - Sorting and grouping are important skills for young children to learn because they lay the foundation for many other important academic and life skills. Sorting and grouping involve categorizing objects based on common attributes such as color, shape, size, and function. These skills help children to understand and make sense of the world around them. This activity begins by presenting the learner with two large cards, one depicting a dog and the other a cat, to introduce the two animal categories. Then, the learner is given 12 smaller cards, 6 with different pictures of a dog and 6 with different pictures of a cat. The task is to sort the smaller cards into two piles, one for dogs and the other for cats, based on the animal depicted in the picture. The learner is encouraged to observe and compare the pictures to identify the distinguishing features of each animal and group them accordingly. As the learner progresses, the activity can be made more challenging by introducing pictures of animals that are similar such as a horse and a cow, to test their ability to differentiate between similar but unrelated objects. This activity can be used to promote several learning outcomes- visual discrimination classification critical thinking skills It is also a fun and engaging way for learners to explore and learn about different types of animals while practicing essential cognitive skills. This activity was created to be an activity book. However, feel free to print and create to fit your needs. This is a ten-page book with twenty different animals to sort.
