Number Bonds 1-30 Bingo - Boards 11-15
Math, Fact Families, Addition and Subtraction, Addition, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games
Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing number bonds to 30 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on number bonds for numbers 1-30! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers Dice Game
Math, Fractions, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, Activities, Games
This is a fun and easy game to add to your fractions unit to help students practice working with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students must demonstrate knowledge of what makes an improper fraction, how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed number, and how to order and compare mixed numbers. I suggest using 10-sided dice (if possible) for a wider variety of outcomes. I encourage my students to use mini-whiteboards for recording their work and doing their calculations. Student Instructions: 1) You and your partner each roll the die two times so you each have two numbers. 2) Use your two numbers to make an IMPROPER FRACTION (which one should be the numerator?). 3) Write down your improper fraction and convert it to a mixed number. 4) Compare with your partner’s mixed number. Which number is bigger? You might have to find a common denominator if the whole numbers are the same. 5) The person with the larger number gets a point. Play until one person has five points. Grades to Use With: This is a simple game that can be an addition to a lesson or fraction review in grades 3-7 when students are working with fractions that have a value greater than one. Standards: CCSS3NF.A.3 Compare fractions by creating equivalent fractions CCSS4NF.A.2 Compare fractions by creating equivalent fractions- finding common denominators CCSS4NF.B.4a Fractions greater than 1 and multiplying fractions What's Included: A simple 2 Page PDF. One instruction page for teachers and one half-page instruction sheet for students (cut one page in half and give to two groups). This game is great for a variety of ages, whether they are just learning their addition facts (adding 1 through 6), are practicing all of their addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division facts, for those who know all of their facts but are practicing their fluency...or for those who just like strategy games! This game is great to incorporate into your math lesson or throughout the day as a fast finisher activity. Students and teachers alike will also love it as an indoor recess game . Students may not even realize they are practicing their facts or how much strategy is really involved! Materials Needed: • Game Board •2 dice •Pen or pencil Object of the Game : •To be the player with the most colored squares How to Play: Decide which player goes first by rolling the dice. The person with the highest roll goes first First player rolls both dice. They may either add, subtract, multiply or divide the dice. Player finds their answer on the game board and draws ONE line by connecting any two dots that surround that number. Next player’s turn Play continues back and forth When a player connects two dots that closes off a square, they color in the square and earn a point. This player gets to roll again! Once game board has all squares colored in, player with the most points wins! Examples •Player rolls a ”6” and a “2” •Connect dots that surround a “4” (6 – 2 = 4) •Connect dots that surround a ”12” (6 x 2 = 12) •Connect dots that surround a “3” (6 ➗ 2 = 3) •Connect dots that surround an “8” (6 + 2 = 8) Challenge •Another option for keeping score is that each player earns the points that they square off. •For example, if a player squares off a “12” square, that player earns 12 points. •This adds in more strategy for squaring off higher numbers as well as additional practice for adding!
