Add some fun to your creative writing unit or provide enrichment options for excelling students with black-out and found poems. These classic poem types are more hands-on than traditional pen-on-paper writing, making them a great way to bust up boring classroom routines! Black-out and found poetry are highly flexible activities . These can be "filler" activities for half-days or can take days to finish. I usually give my students one day for each poem type plus a day to make sure both are finished. Then, I hang all of them up in the hallway for an easy, beautiful display of student work. The great thing about black-out and found poetry activities is that they can be "shrunk down" or "stretched out" to suit your time needs! Keep these on hand for weeks before breaks or during testing!

This product covers the 2016 Virginia (VA) Standards of Learning (SOL) 3.2 The student will a) name and write fractions and mixed numbers represented by a model; b) represent fractions and mixed numbers with models and symbols; and c) compare fractions having like and unlike denominators, using words and symbols (>, <, =, or ≠), with models. (note that this will also work for the 2023 VA SOL 3.NS.3 The student will use mathematical reasoning and justification to represent and compare fractions (proper and improper) and mixed numbers with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10), including those in context.) This resource is a comprehensive lesson that uses 20 body part-related vocabulary words. First off, you can introduce these words by using the PDF -based presentation. With the arrow keys, you just move from one word to another to make your students familiar with them. Next, You can hand out the vocabulary lists. Beware that these are made with color, so in order to be eco-friendly you might want to use black and white ink. Once the students have taken these lists home, they can do the vocabulary test in their next class. They can practice with the words by utilizing the included flash cards. These just need to be printed, laminated, and cut. Beware of sharp edges though. You can use the curved edges version to avoid annoying pinches. Finally, use the Wacky Words activity to have a really good time in class. With this, all the letters are mixed up. Students love this.
