Guided fill-in-the-blank notes teach students to build an informative essay introduction from three parts — a hook, an "arch" transition sentence, and a thesis restating the prompt with supporting reasons — using the branded Pixanotes note-taking format. Over three practice days, students read short nonfiction passages on the Titanic disaster, lightning, and photography, then write their own introduction paragraphs responding to a prompt about each. A day-five assessment gives students a passage on the history of technology and asks them to choose the strongest hook, arch, and thesis from multiple-choice options. Full answer keys are provided for the notes, sample paragraphs, and assessment, and the file also includes digital instructions, a Google Slides notes/practice link and a Google Forms quiz link. The Slides link is currently unavailable; use the printable notes and practice instead. Once students can write this introduction, a 5-paragraph essay outline shows where it fits alongside the three body paragraphs and conclusion of a complete essay.
