Picture Book Story Elements word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this picture book story elements puzzle set for my 1st and 2nd graders during our reading unit. The kids loved picture books but had no idea what words like author, illustrator, or cover meant when we talked about the parts of a book. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like author, illustrator, cover, title, page, picture, story, character, setting, and plot. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the picture book vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the author and illustrator can be the same person. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple book, pencil, and paintbrush drawings but nothing too busy. Works for K through 3rd grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their favorite book cover on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Students can use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to color the acorns that contain the correct letter. The teacher can laminate the worksheets and students can use dry erase markers to mark the correct letter. When to Use: Literacy Center : The teacher can place these worksheets in a literacy center for students to complete. Morning Work: These worksheets make a great, easy to set up activity for students to complete as classmates arrive to class. Quiet Time Activity: Students who do not nap can complete these worksheets while their classmates rest. Homework: These worksheets are an easy to assign homework activity for students to complete with parents. Small Group Activity: Teachers can call aside small groups of students who need more help with letter recognition to complete these in a small group setting. These worksheets are no-prep. The teacher just needs to print the pages and give them to students to complete. Laminating is only required if the teacher wishes to create a write and wipe activity. Skills Assessed: These alphabet letter maze worksheets assess students' ability to identify and match capital letters. Students can also work on fine motor skills by using dot markers or small manipulatives to complete these pages.

Westward Expansion word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this westward expansion puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our social studies unit. The kids knew America grew bigger but had no idea how or why people moved west, or what words like pioneer or wagon train meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like pioneer, settler, wagon train, Oregon Trail, frontier, homestead, gold rush, railroad, territory, expansion, west, Mississippi, wagon, prairie, and adventure. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether pioneers had cars or wagons. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple covered wagon and trail drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name one challenge pioneers faced on the trail on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Tax Day word search puzzle worksheet activity Tax Day Word Search - Real-World Learning Activity I made this word search for my 5th grade class when we did our "Life Skills" unit last April. It's a simple 2-page PDF with 24 tax-related words hidden in the puzzle - things like "refund," "deduction," and "W2" that adults talk about every tax season. The words are hidden in all directions (just like our other puzzles) with some being easy to find ("income") and others more challenging ("withholding"). I used this as a fun way to introduce basic financial concepts before our "adulting day" activities. Back to School | First Day of School | Headband, Hat and Crown! This back to school or first day of school hat, headband and crown is the perfect way to celebrate with all your new students. There are six different designs that students can put together for these amazing hats. Lots of images to choose from and to color and there is even a place for them to write their name and proudly display their hats for other students to see and for parents at pick up time. Assembly is very easy. After choosing a design for the hat / headband, choose a design for the wrap around headband. Students will then color the designs, write their name, and then cut out their hat / headband. Teachers will then staple the main hat to the headband sections as they measure them around the students and then staple them together around their heads.
