Grade 2 Seasons and Weather word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this seasons and weather puzzle set for my 2nd graders during our Earth science unit. The kids knew it got cold in winter and hot in summer, but they had no idea about the specific vocabulary for what happens in each season, or what words like spring equinox, autumn leaves, or seasonal changes actually meant. They also kept mixing up the order of the seasons and what you do in each one . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like spring, summer, autumn, fall, winter, weather, temperature, clothes, rain, snow, sun, wind, leaves, and seasonal . I also included key terms like equinox , orbit , tilt , and hemisphere to give them the academic vocabulary they need for understanding why seasons happen and why they're different in the Northern and Southern Hemispheres . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "equinox" or whether "autumn" and "fall" mean the same thing (they do, but the kids always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a seasons chart or a globe nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the relationship between the Earth's tilt and the seasons . I added a couple simple sun, snowflake, and tree drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw one thing they like to do in each season on the back and label it with a word from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.

Order of Operations word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this order of operations puzzle set for my 5th graders during our math unit. The kids could solve equations but had no idea what order to do the operations in, so they kept getting different answers for the same problem. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like parentheses, brackets, exponents, multiply, divide, add, subtract, left to right, evaluate, simplify, expression, order, operations, PEMDAS, and GEMDAS. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the order of operations finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether multiplication always comes before division. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple step-by-step arrow drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers solve 3 + 4 x 2 and write why the answer is 11 not 14 on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
