Chapter Book Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Chapter Book Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this chapter book vocabulary puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our reading unit. The kids were moving from picture books to chapter books but had no idea what words like chapter, series, or sequel meant when we talked about longer books. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like chapter, title, series, sequel, paragraph, page, bookmark, glossary, and index. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the chapter book vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a sequel is always better than the first book. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple book, bookmark, and magnifying glass drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write the title of a chapter book they want to read on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Drug and Alcohol Awareness word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles
Drug and Alcohol Awareness word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this drug and alcohol awareness puzzle set for my 4th and 5th graders during our health unit. The kids had heard about drugs and alcohol but had no idea what medicine was safe versus what was dangerous, or why adults could drink but kids couldn't. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like medicine, prescription, doctor, pharmacy, label, dosage, safe, unsafe, drug, alcohol, tobacco, nicotine, cigarette, vape, poison, addiction, brain, body, health, risk, and peer pressure. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the awareness vocabulary finally stick in an age-appropriate way. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether medicine from a doctor can ever be dangerous. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple medicine bottle, question mark, and brain drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers write one rule about taking medicine on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Grade 7 Ancient Civilizations Review word search, scramble and crosswo
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables
Grade 7 Ancient Civilizations Review word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this ancient civilizations review puzzle set for my 7th graders during our end-of-unit review. The kids had learned about Egypt, Greece, Rome, China, and India earlier in the year, but they kept mixing up the key achievements and contributions of each civilization, especially which inventions came from China (paper, compass, gunpowder) and which came from Greece (democracy, philosophy) . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using a mix of vocabulary from all the major civilizations: Egypt (pharaoh, pyramid, hieroglyphics, Nile), Greece (democracy, philosophy, Olympics, Parthenon), Rome (republic, senate, aqueduct, Colosseum, Pax Romana), China (dynasty, Great Wall, silk road, compass, gunpowder), India (Indus Valley, Hinduism, Buddhism, reincarnation, karma), and Mesopotamia (cuneiform, ziggurat, Hammurabi, fertile crescent) . I also threw in a few like "civilization," "empire," and "ancient" because they kept coming up in our class discussions . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "hieroglyphics" (it's a long one) or whether cuneiform and hieroglyphics are the same thing (they're not—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review before the test, and I usually have a chart of civilization achievements nearby for the kids who need the visual support to remember which invention came from which civilization . I added a couple simple pyramid, column, and compass drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 6th through 7th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one civilization and write one contribution they made to the world on the back. The kids actually ask for these now. Focus the civilization review on Ancient Mesopotamia vocabulary puzzles .

Farming and Agriculture word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this farming and agriculture puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our community helpers unit. The kids could name a few things like tractors and cows, but they had no idea about all the steps that bring food from the field to our tables. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like farm, farmer, tractor, cow, pig, chicken, sheep, horse, crop, corn, wheat, soil, seed, plant, grow, harvest, barn, and vegetable . I also made sure to include a few like "irrigation," "orchard," "dairy," and "ranch" because they kept coming up in our conversations about different types of farms . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or independent practice. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the difference between a crop and a vegetable, or whether an orchard is a type of garden. The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've watched a short video about how farms work. I added a couple simple tractor, barn, and sunflower drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a picture of their favorite farm animal and label it on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Maps and Map Skills word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this maps and map skills puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our geography unit. The kids could find their house on a picture but didn't know how to use a compass rose or read a map key. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like map, compass rose, legend, key, scale, symbol, north, south, east, west, globe, continent, ocean, grid, and route. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the basic skills stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about which direction is which without a compass. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple compass and map marker drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 1st through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a simple map of their desk or bedroom on the back with a key. The kids actually ask for these now.

Friendship Skills word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this friendship skills puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our social-emotional learning unit. The kids could play together but had no idea what words like share, listen, or include meant in the context of being a good friend. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like friend, friendship, share, take turns, listen, care, help, include, invite, kind, respect, trust, honest, apologize, forgive, support, celebrate, and loyalty. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the friendship vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a good friend always agrees with you. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple heart, hugging stick figures, and smiley face drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name two qualities of a good friend on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
