This is a pack of 12 Phonic worksheets to teach the digraph 'ee', plus flashcards and a no-prep GAME! These worksheets are designed to be worked in order as they start by developing the child's phonemic awareness of the new sound in words, and progress to reading and spelling words with the new sound, to reading passages and writing a short dictation. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programs, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. These ee Worksheets can help all children in the class succeed, even the lower third and those with special needs, as their highly structured nature helps to reduce the burden on the working memory which leads to less frustration for the child. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 12 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give this a week after we finish the book, to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. A fun, no-prep game closes the unit of work making learning fun and providing a non-threatening way for children to consolidate their learning. The majority of my worksheets are accompanied by a YouTube video, where I give teaching moments through stories. Some stories are about a particular subject, so the teaching moment will be aligned with the topic. But many books are simply entertaining stories where I “create” teaching moments such as… contractions, commas in a series, inferencing, cause/effect relationships, etc. I also always mention capitalization/punctuation because this is an often-forgotten skill. The videos are public, free, and available to anyone. Please know that these videos provide teaching ‘moments,’ not complete lessons on skills. These videos were created to reinforce previously learned skills, as well as preview future skills, depending on the age of the listener. Their purpose is to engage children through story, while at the same time, create a fun learning environment without them even realizing it. What You Get: This is a Helen Keller Worksheet Packet. Complete Phonics Worksheets Bundle - Letters and Sounds Phases 2-5 This is a big bundle of phonics worksheets containing over 450 worksheets covering the Letters and Sounds Phases 2, 3, 4 and 5. It takes students right from learning their initial sounds, through CVC words and consonant blends, all the way to the more advanced digraphs and trigraphs. The materials are science of reading aligned, which means they follow a systematic, structured phonics instruction. Who are these worksheets for? If you're using a Letters and Sounds programme (including the revised versions), these will perfectly fit your teaching sequence. However, please note: this pack does not include worksheets for URE. Even if you're not using Letters and Sounds, you can still use these worksheets very effectively. They are organised according to Letters and Sounds, but the phonics patterns themselves can be used with any programme. Please ensure that your students have already learned the digraphs on each sheet before you use it, and you'll be fine. I've also had teachers tell me they use these for adults/teens learning English as a second language, as well as with older special needs students who need extra reinforcement alongside their regular phonics lessons, because they are non-babyish. The differentiation built into each worksheet makes this really practical. What's actually in the bundle? Four separate PDF books with more than 450 worksheets total. I have tested all of these with my own pupils over many years, so I know they work: The first book focuses on initial sounds - getting students comfortable with letter recognition and beginning sounds. Book two moves into CVC words and words with consonant blends (still keeping short vowel sounds). The third book covers the digraphs from Phases 3 and 4: ck, ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air and er. Book four tackles Phase 5 patterns: ay, ou, ie, ea, oy, ir, u-e, aw, wh, ph, ew, oe, au, ey, a-e, i-e, o-e, u-e, e-e, plus 'y' saying 'eye' and 'o' saying 'u'. This final book also brings in the sight words for Level 5 with reading passages and comprehension questions. Why the systematic approach matters Each book builds carefully on what comes before. There aren't any surprise phonics patterns popping up before students are ready for them - which means fewer frustrated children and more success for everyone. Every worksheet is fully differentiated, so you can meet the needs of different ability levels in your class without creating entirely separate activities. This FL fun, Find and Color worksheet for beginning blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the FL blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. Answer keys: The answer key is included on the sheet, in small print.
