The objective of the activity is to categorize these items based on their unique features, functions, and classes. To begin the activity , the instructor will introduce the concept of feature, function, and class, providing examples and a brief description of each. The learners will then be given a set of clothing items and asked to sort them into categories based on these three criteria. example, the learners could sort clothing items based on the feature of long sleeves, the function of keeping warm, or the class of pants. To make the activity more engaging, the learners could be given a time limit, a point system, or asked to work in groups. The instructor could also provide feedback and additional information about the clothing items and their features, functions, and classes. This activity can also be completed one on one and easily individualized. Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapists can utilize this activity in their one-on-one therapy sessions. By completing this activity , the learners will improve their critical thinking and analytical skills as they learn to categorize and classify objects based on different criteria. They will also develop their knowledge and understanding of clothing items and their unique features, functions, and classes. This activity is easy to create - print and laminate all cards, cut out the individual sorting cards and velcro to the corresponding activity mat. In this resource, your students will have a take home brochure to help them think of and remember ways to calm down and cope with big feelings. There are 6 sections of this resource. There are SEL coloring pages in this resource. The first section is the cover page with has a mindfulness coloring activity that students can customize to their liking. This in and of itself is a coping skill! Next you have a place where students can use their name and use the acronym of their name to help them come up and customize how they would like to calm down when they have a big feeling. For example, if the name is Jenny, they can write; J is for make a joke or listen to a joke, E is for Exercise, N is for Try something New, the other N is for Notice objects in the room (such as all the things that are green, blue, etc.) and the Y is for do yoga poses. On of the pages is the directions and the other page (flap) is for them to write their own name and customize their strategies. One of the flaps give them the acronym of CALMS which stands for C-Calming Exercises, A-Activities that distract (reading, playing a game or sport, puzzle, word search, etc) L-Look around the room (Look for all the blue objects, Look for things you see that begin with the letter A, etc.) and then M-Mindfulness practices. These are things that really bring students into the present moment. Look for 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you taste, etc. The S is for Sensations. Do things that make you feel different sensations that are pleasant such as place an ice pack on your forehead, go into a hot shower or hot tub, etc. Taste something sweet or spicy. These are all the things that can help someone cope with a strong feeling.

Some students will be business owners, some students will be consumers and one or more students will be headquarters. This activity is a fun, hands-on activity to teach about opportunity costs, goods, services, consumers, producers, etc. This is a great activity for grades 3rd through 7th grade. Coelacanth is one of the most popular pieces of evidence that evolutionary scientists use to prove their theory about the age of the earth. But Coelacanth was discovered living in the early 20th century. Not only was this “extinct” fish discovered alive and well, but it was also apparently the same with no major changes compared to the original fossil discovered and dated 65 million years. So, if macroevolution is true, should the coelacanth still be used as evidence of evolution or old age. If so, why are there no apparent changes in this specific animal? These are questions to be pondered by students who read the short article and answer the questions included in the activity. This reading comprehension activity includes the link to the article discussing the discovery and what this might mean to the overall picture painted for the public regarding the evidence. This activity can be used for guided reading as well as increasing vocabulary and practice critically evaluating both sides of a controversial topic: Creation vs Evolution.
