From his bedroom window, Bruno sees the camp in the distance but doesn't understand what it is. One day, Bruno decides to explore the woods near his home and stumbles upon the camp. He meets a Jewish boy named Shmuel who is wearing the striped uniform of a prisoner. Despite the barbed wire fence separating them, Bruno and Shmuel form a friendship, and Bruno begins to visit him regularly, bringing him food and playing games with him. As the movie progresses, Bruno starts to become aware of the true nature of the camp and the treatment of the prisoners. He decides to help Shmuel find his missing father and sneaks into the camp, wearing a striped uniform like Shmuel's. The two boys are led into a gas chamber, and the movie ends with a shot of the empty chamber and Bruno's parents realizing their son is missing.
