Groundhog Day Math Coordinate Plane Pixel Art Activity

Groundhog Day | Coordinate Plane Mystery Picture Activity is a no-prep, self-checking Cartesian Plane mystery picture activity. This is a great way for students to have fun while practicing. Students will practice writing ordered pairs for 20 points on the coordinate plane with this fun digital activity using Google Sheets. When I used it as an eighth grade sub plan, the children greatly enjoyed it. As they get their answers right, the mystery picture will be unveiled! This is a self-check practice where students will know when they arrive at the right answer. It is easy to implement, as students can access it through the link embedded on the PDF. This activity may be implemented after a lesson, as a closing activity, an exit ticket or even a formative assessment . Additionally, students may work individually, together in pairs, or even in groups, to arrive at the right answer and have the picture reveal. It can also be set up as a center activity or for a tutoring session with individual students. If there is no ability to set up this activity as google sheet for individual students, it can always just be printed out for students to provide the answers and then the teacher can show the mystery picture to all students. This is a great resource, easy to implement, engaging for students, self-check, and just as important, a fun way for students to practice with a fun theme!

Preparation · Photocopy Board onto A3 paper or card (Colour and greyscale versions included). · Photocopy question sheets onto paper or card (Colour and greyscale versions included) and cut into question cards. How to Play. · Highest score of dice starts · Pupils take turns and work their way around the board following the instructions in the squares. · A symbol on the board indicates that the pupil takes a question card from the face down pile. If correct they move on 2 spaces. · If a player thinks an answer given by an opponent is incorrect they can challenge. If the challenge is correct the challenger moves forward 2 spaces. Alkali Metals Concept Wheel – Interactive Chemistry Activity for Grades 7–10 Learn Alkali Metals - visual learning 🧪🧠 This concept wheel is a practical way to help students understand the alkali metals in Group 1 of the periodic table. I first made it for a grade 8 class that was struggling with the idea of chemical families. Instead of giving them another chart to copy, I tried this wheel activity, and it worked much better because they could see and handle the information piece by piece. The wheel has eight sections that cover the basics: general properties, reactivity, how these elements appear in nature, and some everyday uses. Students cut out and arrange the pieces to build the full circle. The activity takes a little bit of preparation, but once the pieces are made, you can reuse them. I usually store the sets in small envelopes so they are ready for the next lesson. There are different versions included. Some circles are already filled in, which is helpful when introducing the topic for the first time. Others are blank, so students can write their own notes after a lab or reading assignment. I have used the blank ones during review sessions, and students liked comparing their wheels with a partner’s version. It also gives them a sense of ownership over the material. The wheel can be used in many ways: as a warm-up before a lab, as practice during a unit on the periodic table, or as a review before a quiz. It works for group tasks, but I have also had students complete it on their own. When the wheels are finished, they make a clear visual display for the classroom or for a student’s notebook. This activity is designed for grades 7–10 chemistry or physical science.
