This letter S beginning sounds and handwriting activity includes real photographs to practice learning to recognize, write and identify the sound of the letter S. Each picture has bold colors and includes easily recognized pictures. Each activity can be used in a literacy center for students to practice letter recognition. What is Included: There is an instructional page with printing instructions. There are letter S posters with various letter S words. There are handwriting task cards that allow students to practice writing the letter S as well as words that begin with the letter S. There are beginning sound clip cards that allow students to practice clipping the images that begin with the letter S. There is a sorting activity where you sort pictures that begins with S from words that do not begin with S. The letter S sorting cards that can also be used to play memory, matching, or concentration games. These cards can also be used during a lesson in a pocket chart as well as for a center display. When to Use: All of the activities make great literacy centers, by placing each set of activities in the center and letting students complete activities alone or with a partner. These activities make great morning tub activities. Just place these activities in morning bins for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Skills Assessed: These activities assess letter recognition skills, beginning sounds, handwriting, and sorting skills. Each activity in this set is low prep. Each activity just needs to be printed out, cut apart, and laminated if desired. When you laminate the writing cards, you can create a writing center activity that is reusable is you add dry erase markers. The handwriting cards and beginning sound clip cards can be turned into task box activities.

These dinosaur themed alphabet cards are perfect for students who are learning about dinosaurs. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the letters of the alphabet. What is Included: This set includes one capital letter card and one lowercase letter card for each letter. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the capital letters to the lowercase letters. Attach a paper clip to a letter card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the letters for a fun fishing game. Use a sand or salt tray for students to practice writing the letters on each card. Have students find the letters that you have hidden around the room for a fun letter hunt. Place the letter cards in alphabetical order. Short A: Riddle Time Sample Game Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game The question slide will begin with a clue and the amount of points available for guessing the correct word with this clue alone. Students can write/say their answers. Clicking the curved arrow on the right will make the next clue appear. This will have a lower points value but gives another clue for students to guess the word on. Again, press the curved arrow for the final clue. This is pretty much a a give away ie. you put this on your head, so students win at least five points on each round. Press the arrow for the answer. A pic will also appear but immediately become semi-transparent so you can still see the clues underneath if you wish to go through them. Press the square in the bottom right corner to go to the next page. Will be harder for early learners due to the amount of reading so you may have to read it out and help with some meanings. Alphabet Mats to Build A Letter

Get students excited avout learning letters with these hands-on alphabet mats! This alphabet activity uses different kinds of manipulatives or craft supplies to build each letter mats for a hands-on approach to practice letter recognition and formation. What is Included: There is one mat for each capital letter. There is one mat for each lowercase letter. There is one mat for each number 1-10. Ways to use these mats: Students can use pouch tops to build each letter. Students can use cotton balls or pom poms to create each letter. Students can stick stickers in each circle to fill in each letter. Students can use bingo dabbers to make each letter. Students can use mini erasers to fill in each letter. One thing I have done with these mats is to provide manipulatives that begin with the target letter for students to use to fill in each letter mat. This way, students are exposed to the letter's beginning sound as well as its shape and form. Turn the Mats into a Game! To make these mats a game, provide students with a die. The students will roll the die and, then the students will add the correct number of manipulatives to the letter mat until they build the entire letter. Where to Use: Literacy Centers - Simply place the mats and manipulatives in a literacy center for students to complete alone or with a partner. Morning Tubs or Baskets - Place these mats in a morning bin for students to complete as their classmates arrive to class. Quiet Time Activity - These mats can be used during a quiet time for students who do not nap, helping them stay engaged while their peers sleep. These alphabet mats are a no prep option for teachers to put in their literacy centers. The teacher simply needs to add the desired manipulatives that students will use to complete the mats.
