This social-emotional learning resource helps students feel calmer by having them trace cute, colorful pictures while practicing deep breathing. Use it individually when a student feels upset or overexcited and needs to self-soothe. Or use it for the whole class, such as after recess or assemblies when students need to transition calmly back to academics. The packet includes traceable pictures of animals, foods, transportation, and spring themes. It also has instructions for modeling the technique, plus ideas for implementation, like creating a classroom calm-down station. With repeated practice, the structured Trace and Breathe activity can become an invaluable part of your students’ self-regulation toolkit.
