Homologous Series of Alkanes – Word Search Activity A differentiated puzzle set to support terminology and topic review in organic chemistry (Grades 8–11) 🧪🧩 This word search activity is designed to help students consolidate their understanding of alkanes and the structure of homologous series in a fun and engaging way. Instead of traditional worksheets, this format offers a quiet, focused task that can be used for reinforcement, revision, or simply as a meaningful time filler. You’ll find a total of 10 word search puzzles, each in two variants (A/B), and five levels of difficulty. The level of challenge increases with the size of the word grid and the direction of the hidden terms. The puzzles include key vocabulary from the topic of alkanes and are ideal for supporting students' familiarity with hydrocarbon structures and related terminology. Included in this resource: 10 unique word search puzzles × 2 variants (A and B) 5 levels of differentiation (marked with 1 to 5 stars) Terms appear forward only or forward and backward (depending on level) All solutions included Colorful and black-and-white versions for flexible printing Self-created chemistry-themed clipart for visual support How I use it in class: I like to use these puzzles at the end of a topic, during quiet work phases, or even as an option for early finishers. The A/B versions are helpful when students sit next to each other – it prevents simple copying but keeps the task structure consistent. The varying difficulty levels also allow you to match tasks to students’ needs without having to explain separate instructions. Whether students are revisiting the basics of alkanes or preparing for more advanced organic chemistry, this puzzle format keeps them engaged and focused. A practical, ready-to-use activity that brings a bit of variety into the chemistry classroom – and helps build confidence with technical terms. Grocery Game: Estimating, Adding, and Multiplying Decimals
Math, Addition and Subtraction, Decimals, Multiplication and Division, Division, Money, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Activities, Games
Here's a fun way to practice operations with decimal numbers and money math! Play this whole-class grocery game and your students won't even notice how much decimal operations practice they are getting! It is a fun, whole class activity that you need to be able to project in your classroom on an interactive whiteboard or screen-share for distance learning. As students play along, they practice estimating to stay within a shopping budget. They have to multiply and add with decimal numbers: all helpful realistic applications. My students absolutely love playing this game, and I have included three rounds so you can play more than once! Instructions: 1) Decide on a target range. A higher range will require more challenging multiplication. If the range is tighter, it will be more difficult to win. I usually use a range such as $50-$52. 2) Tell students they must buy at least 4 of the 5 products. Students need to have a piece of paper and a pencil for calculations. 3) Choose a student to pick the first product. She needs to estimate the price for one of them, decide how many she wants to buy, and estimate how much that will cost. “I think the cheese is about $5, I want 3, so that will be around $15.” 4) Then show the price (by moving the red box with your cursor), and all students calculate the cost by hand. For example, 3 x 5.75 = 17.25. This is the start of the running total. 5) Choose another student to buy the second product. Again, have him or her estimate before calculating. Then allow all the students to calculate the cost of the second product. For example 4 x 3.19 = 12.76. 6) Now students have to switch from multiplying to adding decimals. They add the price of the second product to their running total. 17.25 + 12.76 = 30.01 7) Continue with the third, fourth, and fifth (if necessary) product. 8) Students try to spend between $50-52. It’s not always easy! Talk to the class about different strategies such as saving an inexpensive product for the end. What's Included: 5-Page PowerPoint Presentation with 3 Rounds and Complete Instructions If you like this Grocery Game try another one! Fall Edition Winter Edition Spring Grocery Game

Dog Breeds Coloring Domino – Fun and Educational Game
ELA, Language Development, ESL, Special Resources, Science, Basic Science, Life Sciences, Animals, Biology, STEM, Grade 6, Projects, Activities, Classroom Decor, Drawing Templates & Outlines, Worksheets & Printables, Coloring Pages, Worksheets, Word Walls, Games
Dog Breeds Domino – A Calm Coloring & Matching Game for Elementary Students This printable domino game is a quiet and creative way for students to explore different dog breeds while practicing matching skills and early reading. The cards are all black and white, so students can color them themselves – something my third graders always look forward to. It gives them a sense of ownership over the material and creates a nice break from more structured tasks. The idea is simple: each domino shows either a dog breed name or a drawing, and students have to find the correct pairs. The illustrations are clear and recognizable, even without color, so they work well for younger learners or students still developing their vocabulary. The breed names are printed in an easy-to-read font, which helps build confidence in early readers. I’ve used this activity in a few different contexts: – as a quiet task for early finishers – in small group centers – during indoor recess on rainy days – or as part of a broader unit on animals and pets It also opens up room for short, low-pressure conversations – for example, “Which one do you think is the fastest?” or “Would you want a dog like that at home?” If you work with a therapy or school dog, like I do, it’s a great way to bring that connection into the classroom without needing a full lesson plan. The file includes 20 domino cards that you can print and cut out. I recommend using heavier paper or laminating the cards if you plan to reuse them. Depending on the group, you can let students color all the cards first or wait until they’ve completed a match. This is one of those activities that feels more like a calm puzzle than a “game” – which is exactly what some students need in a busy school day. 💛 Warmest wishes, Heike from Lernfitness & Happy Joe 🐶✨ Did You Know? Spring Two Step Equation Maze March Activity
Math, Algebra, Grade 6, 7, 8, Activities, Centers, Games, Worksheets & Printables
This spring-themed maze is one of those activities students actually enjoy while practicing two-step equations. Instead of just solving problems on a worksheet, they move through a path by finding the correct answers, which keeps them focused much longer than usual. I created this to give middle school students extra practice with solving linear equations without it feeling repetitive. They’ll work with addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as they go from one step to the next. The setup is simple. Students solve an equation, look for their answer, and follow the maze to the next problem. If they make a mistake, they usually notice it quickly because they end up stuck, which helps them self-correct. It works well for grades 6–9, especially for review lessons, early finishers, or even as a quick activity before a test. I’ve also used it in small groups and turned it into a timed challenge, which students tend to like. There are two versions included, so you can choose an easier or slightly more challenging option depending on your class. This makes it easier to use with mixed ability levels. Answer keys are included with the full solutions, so students can check their work or you can go over it together. The file is a printable PDF (9 pages), ready to use with no prep.

Friendship Dilemmas Game-Played like Apples To Apples
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Social Skills, Grade 3, 4, 5, 6, Activities, Games
In this resource, you will teach students how to solve a variety of friendship dilemmas. This game is played like Apples to Apples. There are 18 examples (with pictures) of friendship dilemmas. There are 36 friendship strategy cards. Some of the examples for the dilemma cards are; your friend likes to copy you, your friend brags, your friend does not let you play with other friends, your friend cheats at games, your friend shared something private to someone else and other examples. For the strategy cards, some examples are; talk to your friend about how you feel, listen to their perspective, think about your part in the problem, talk to a parent, talk to an older sibling, distract yourself with something fun, and many other strategies. For the game, divide students into groups of about 4-5. All players get 5 strategy cards. The judge begins by drawing a friendship dilemma card and reads it and shows the group. Each player chooses one strategy from their 5 cards that could be a way to handle the friendship dilemma. Players place the strategy cards FACE DOWN so the judge does not know who placed which strategy card. The judge chooses which one they would most likely use in that situation. It helps to know what the judge might choose! Important: All strategies are valid, there is not one BEST strategy, only which one the judge might most likely choose. The next round, all players take another strategy card as they always need to have 5 strategy cards with each turn. The played strategy cards go back under the strategy pile. someone else is the judge and the game continues as time allows. There are 2 mindfulness coloring sheets to offer to the students after the game. This is an engaging game to play after a friendship skills lesson or conflict resolution skills lesson.

6th Grade Inequality Matching Game – 32 Cards
Algebra, Math, Number Lines, Grade 6, 7, Worksheets & Printables, Activities, Games
Teaching your students about how to write and evaluate inequalities in algebra can sometimes end up being a bit dry. Try adding this game to your algebra unit to bring a little movement and collaboration to your classroom. It's a super simple game: just print the cards and cut them out. There are 32 cards in 16 pairs. Deal one card to each student in your class. They should spend half a minute looking at their card and thinking of other ways it could be represented. For example, if they have a number line: what inequality does it show? If they have an inequality, could it be simplified? Then, all the students get up and move around the room (SILENTLY!). They can use gestures while looking at each others' cards and trying to find their match. Pairs move to the side of the room until everyone is matched up. It's that simple! Of course, you could also use these cards for a standard memory game where you flip two cards at a time and try to find matches. I have also included a second set of cards that have pairs of fractions and decimals (for example 1/20 and 0.05). Grades to Use With: These cards are designed to target the standard 6EE.B.8 in grade six classrooms, but they could also be an excellent quick review in grades 7 and 8!
