Sight Words Fluency Learning Game | Fry's 1st 100 Words
ELA, Language Development, Spelling, Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Games
Sight Words Fluency Game for Kindergarten through Grade 3 This sight words learning game helps build reading fluency with Fry's first 100 high frequency words. Students race to identify and "swat" the sight words called out by the teacher. The game can be played whole group or in small groups. Print the words on cardstock, laminate for durability, and cut apart to make game pieces. Provide each student with a fly swatter. The teacher calls out a sight word and students race to find and cover the matching word with their swatter. The first student to identify and swat the correct word wins the card. For more of a challenge, cover the swatters with an additional piece of laminated cardstock. Attach with packing tape or glue. The cover forces students to visually focus when searching for the called out word. Play the basic game without velcro for a quicker pace. Or add velcro dots to the word cards and fly swatters so the card sticks when swatted for easier scoring. Adjust the difficulty by calling out simple CVC words or longer words from Fry's list. This printable sight word game offers a fun and interactive way to build fluency with the first 100 essential words. It's perfect for whole group, small group, or independent practice in grades K-3.

ar/or Phonic Game Colour and B/W
Special Resources, ELA, Special Education Needs (SEN), Language Development, Pre-Reading, Phonics, Reading, Kindergarten, Preschool, Activities, Games, Centers
This game will help your children to learn to hear the sounds ‘ar’ and ‘or’ in words and to read words containing these sounds. Who is it for: Children who are learning the digraphs ar and or. Those children working in Phase 3 of Letters and Sounds Those children working in Speed Set 2 of RWI. Who can use the ar/or game? Teachers, parents, private tutors - anyone who needs it! How to make the game Print out pages 4 to 9, on card. Cut out the picture cards (pages 6 - 8). Cut up the ar/or cards (page 9). Write ‘ar’ on the back of one baseboard (pages 4/5) and ‘or’ on the back of the other. Write ‘ar’ or ‘or’ as appropriate on the backs of the picture cards. Find a bag or small box to put the small letter ar/or cards in. How to play the game This is a game for 2 players. It is best if an adult plays with each child individually first and then when each child in a pair is confident, they can play in together. The game can be played with the picture and word cards alone, without the ar/or cards - as a simple matching game. This is how it has been designed to be played: Take a baseboard each. This will decide who is collecting ‘ar’ pictures and ‘or’ pictures. Choose 6 ar and 6 or cards (you can choose different pictures each time you play). Scatter the picture cards picture side up. Take it in turns to take an ‘ar’/’or’ letter card from the bag/box. If the player with the ‘ar’ baseboards picks an ‘ar’ card, s/he may choose a picture with the ar sound in. Likewise with ‘or’. Players may only turn the picture card over to check that they are correct. If not, the picture card is replaced. The winner is the first to fill his/her card. Do: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your go and invite your pupil’s help, so they get even more practice. Look at the cards that are left. What sound do they have in them? Play again and see if you choose different pictures. What's Included 1 PDF file 2 baseboards Full instructions

Magnetism Dominoes Game for Middle School
Science, Physics, Grade 5, 6, 7, 8, Activities, Games
No numbers on these dominoes, just questions and answers. The game is suitable for all abilities as it can be played by matching two of the same question or a question with its answer. An animated PowerPoint explains how the game is played. This game is so much fun, pupils will forget they are learning! Prior Knowledge Composition of Magnets: Magnets are constructed using magnetic materials. Common materials include Iron, Cobalt, Nickel, and their corresponding alloys. Pole Interactions: Magnets have two types of poles - North and South. When two like poles (e.g., North and North) come close to each other, they repel. Conversely, when opposite poles (e.g., North and South) are brought together, they attract each other. Magnetic Fields: Surrounding every magnet is an invisible force field known as the magnetic field. This field can be visualized through field lines. Field Line Density: The density of these field lines determines the strength of the magnetic field. A region with closely spaced field lines indicates a stronger magnetic field than a region where they're spread out. Visualization of Field Lines: It's essential to understand and recognize the pattern of field lines around two bar magnets, especially when they have the same or opposite poles facing each other. Field Strength at Poles: The magnetic field is strongest at the poles of a magnet due to a higher concentration of field lines. Distance and Field Strength: The strength of the magnetic field diminishes as one moves farther from the magnet. Direction of Field Lines: Field lines emanate outward from the magnet's south pole and point inward toward the north pole. Magnetization Process: When a non-magnetized magnetic material becomes a magnet, the tiny regions within it called domains, which were initially oriented in random directions, align themselves to point uniformly in the same direction. Earth's Magnetic Properties: The Earth behaves like a large magnet. Interestingly, there appears to be a south-type magnetic pole near the Earth's geographic North Pole and a north-type magnetic pole near the Earth's geographic South Pole. Application in Devices: It would be beneficial to have a basic understanding of how magnets and magnetic fields operate within certain devices. Familiarize yourself with the structure and functioning of electric bells, relays, and circuit breakers, as they use these principles. What You Get 90 dominos Animated PowerPoint explaining the rules and how to play. How to Play Each player chooses seven dominos from the top of the face-down pile and holds them in their hand like playing cards. The player who has the longest full name starts and play proceed in a clockwise direction. Players match a question exactly or a question with its answer with the answer. A player can challenge a match if they think it is wrong. Pupils are encouraged to check their books for the correct answer and consult their teacher if a consensus is not reached. If the challenge is correct, the challenger gives one of their cards to the other player. If the challenge is wrong, the challenged player gives one of their cards to the challenger. If a player cannot play a domino, they pick up from the face down pile and can play if possible or add it to their hand. See more Elf Off the Shelf resources on this topic and many others.
