Machines and Mechanical Advantage word search, scramble and crossword

Machines and Mechanical Advantage word search, scramble and crossword
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Machines and Mechanical Advantage word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this machines and mechanical advantage puzzle set for my 4th graders during our physical science unit. The kids knew that machines help us lift or move things but had no idea why or what "mechanical advantage" even meant. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like machine, mechanical advantage, effort, load, lever, pulley, wheel and axle, inclined plane, screw, wedge, fulcrum, trade-off, distance, force, and simple machine. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally click. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether using a ramp makes the work easier or just changes the force. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple drawings of a lever and a ramp but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers explain how a seesaw is a type of lever on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Grade 5 Solar System word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Grade 5 Solar System word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Grade 5 Solar System word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this solar system puzzle set for my 5th graders during our space unit. The kids could name most planets but kept forgetting the order and which ones were gas giants versus rocky planets. They also had no idea what words like orbit, asteroid belt, or gravity meant when we started learning about the structure of the solar system. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, orbit, asteroid belt, dwarf planet, gas giant, terrestrial, sun, and gravity . I also made sure to include a few like "solar system" and "astronomy" because they came up in every lesson . Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess, and the scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "Mercury" or whether Pluto should still be a planet (it's a dwarf planet—they always have opinions about it) . The crossword I use for partners or as a review, and I usually have a solar system diagram nearby for the kids who need the visual support to see the order and relative sizes of the planets . I added a couple simple planet circle and sun drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 5th through 6th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers list the planets in order from the sun on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

The Muscular System word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this muscular system puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our human body unit. The kids knew muscles helped them move but had no idea about voluntary vs involuntary muscles or that they had over 600 muscles. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like muscle, skeletal muscle, smooth muscle, cardiac muscle, voluntary, involuntary, biceps, triceps, quadriceps, hamstring, tendon, contract, relax, move, and heart. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether the heart is a muscle. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple arm muscle drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers name two voluntary and two involuntary muscles on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Figurative Language Terms word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this figurative language puzzle set for my 4th graders during our reading and writing unit. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the literary terms finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether "boom" is onomatopoeia or just a sound. The crossword I use for partners. I added a couple simple speech bubble and paintbrush drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 4th through 5th grade. Print and go. Tall Tales Paul Bunyan word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Tall Tales Paul Bunyan word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Not Grade Specific, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

Tall Tales Paul Bunyan word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Paul Bunyan puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our tall tales unit. The kids were obsessed with the giant lumberjack and Babe the Blue Ox, but they had no idea what words like lumberjack, bunkhouse, or timber meant when we talked about logging and the tall tale genre . So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like Paul Bunyan, Babe, lumberjack, oxen, cradle, blue, gigantic, woods, timber, and logging. I also threw in a few like "prairie," "anvil," "bunkhouse," and "flapjacks" because the kids always ask about what those are . The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about the spelling of "Babe" or whether the ox was actually blue or just a story (I always tell them it's a tall tale, so we get to decide) . The crossword I use for partners, and I usually have a picture of Paul and Babe nearby for the kids who need a visual. I added a couple simple axe, ox, and tree stump drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw their own tall tale exaggeration on the back and label it with three words from the puzzle. The kids actually ask for these now.

Computer Parts word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Computer Parts word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Computer Parts word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this computer parts puzzle set for my 2nd and 3rd graders during our technology unit. The kids could use a computer but had no idea what words like monitor, keyboard, or CPU meant when we talked about the parts of a computer. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like monitor, keyboard, mouse, CPU, printer, scanner, speaker, microphone, and webcam. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the computer parts vocabulary finally stick. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or indoor recess. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about whether a printer is inside or outside the computer. The crossword I use for partners or as a review. I added a couple simple monitor, keyboard, and mouse drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 2nd through 4th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers draw a computer and label three parts on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.

Asian Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle

Asian Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle
Holiday & Seasonal, ELA, Reading, Language Development, Vocabulary, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Word Searches, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables, Crosswords Puzzles

Asian Culture Vocabulary word search, scramble and crossword puzzle I made this Asian culture vocabulary puzzle set for my 3rd and 4th graders during our geography and cultural awareness unit. The kids had heard of sushi and kung fu but had no idea what words like kimono, pagoda, or Diwali meant when we started exploring the incredible diversity of the continent. So I put together a word search, a word scramble, and a crossword using words like China, Japan, India, kimono, hanbok, pagoda, temple, origami, sushi, ramen, yoga, spices, dragon, lantern, and lotus. I also made sure to include a few terms like diya, mehndi, and cricket to show that Asian culture isn’t just about one country or tradition. Nothing fancy — just puzzles to help the vocabulary finally stick in a way that connects to real places and traditions. The PDF is four pages. Three puzzles plus one answer key page. The word search works well for quiet time after recess or during a geography center. The scramble gets them talking because they argue about how to spell "kimono" or whether "ramen" comes from Japan or China (it’s Japanese, but the kids always have strong opinions about it). The crossword I use for partners or as a review after we've looked at photos of temples, lanterns, and traditional clothing. I added a couple simple paper lantern, bamboo, and pagoda drawings but nothing too busy. Works for 3rd through 5th grade. Print and go. Sometimes I have early finishers pick one word from the puzzle and write one fact about its cultural meaning on the back. The kids actually ask for these now.
