1. Brief introduction: Dinosaurs are always attractive to children, for this reason today I decided to create this fun resource for children to review the letters from A to Z, with a dinosaur theme. It should be noted that this material contains both uppercase and lowercase letters. According to a recent study, children tend to be interested in dinosaurs between the ages of 2 and 6. Furthermore, the study showed that children who tend to focus on dinosaurs are much more intelligent than the rest, because they pay more attention to them and develop other types of skills to be able to address this curious fixation. Infants can also master the names of up to 25 dinosaurs (which is often a challenge for an adult), however, they do master the full name, periods and even their classification. If you are looking to practice Fry's sight words, then this is without a doubt the resource for you and your students. In this resource, Fry's First 100 Sight words are all featured. First of all, this set consists of a bunch of flash cards. These cards come in different styles, colored and with or without sharp edges. Just choose the set that is right for you. Then Print, laminate, and cut the cards as you please. The next way to practice these sight words is with the vocabulary lists. There is one that shows all of these words in alphabetical order, while the other list shows each word in order of frequency. And then there is the fill in the blaks worksheet. This SL fun, Find and Color worksheet for beginning blends is excellent for acquainting children orally with initial consonant blends and helping them develop the necessary phonemic awareness in preparation for more advanced blending work, involving four phonemes. What is included in the pack? One PDF sheet for the SL blend. This is a sample of our pack of 20 activities covering common initial blends which can be found here in one PDF file: less clutter on your computer! What do the worksheets involve? Pupils are instructed to combine the two letters on the worksheet and then look for objects that start with that consonant blend. Then, these items ought to be coloured, leaving the others uncoloured. Children can easily work on the sheet unaided once they have been instructed, although, with those children with special needs, it is strongly suggested that an adult works with the child for maximum benefit. How to use The introduction of the concept of initial blends needs to be done thoroughly. When I work with children, especially those with a special need, I first like to teach children to blend two consonant letters. Then I work on developing the children's phonemic awareness: that being the ability to hear two consonant letters blended at the beginning of a word, easily. This is difficult for some pupils and takes a lot of practice. These worksheets can assist by first encouraging students to blend the two consonant letters and then by helping them to hear the blend at the start of a word. As often as you can, practice blending the letters in each initial blend and encourage the students to follow suit. I find that modelling is key at this stage. Who are the initial blends Find and colour worksheets for? Young learners Those with a special need Due to their non-babyish nature , they can be successfully used with older ESL/EFL pupils. A pack of 30 worksheets with a variety of exercises to help build phonemic awareness and reading fluency. These sheets are LETRS and UK GOV requirements aligned. These worksheets also align with the most popular phonic programmes, including RWI and Letters and Sounds. Who are these worksheets for? I have written them for pupils who struggle with processing information - especially sounds. This includes children who are DYSLEXIC or have ANY other kind of processing disorder. Such children may have failed with other methods of teaching phonics. Such pupils need activities that: ·are highly structured - one tiny step at a time building on the one before using only a limited number of words to start with and only using words that the child has already learnt to sound out, with no nasty surprises. ·Have only a little on each pageas these pupils tire easily. What makes these worksheets special? I have a powerful three-step process which I use with my special needs pupils, which is worked out over the course of the 30 worksheets: 1. See it!where we focus on becoming aware of the new sound in words. This involves first hearing the new sound in words and then seeing it in words (tracking). 2. Sound-it-out!Having learnt to see the new sound in words, we learn to sound out these words to read and write them. We begin by usingsound-it-out boxesfor reading and spelling which help the child to segment the word prior to blending the sounds together. Once the child can read and write individual words, we work on fluency by building familiarity with the common words in the new sound family. Once the child can sound the words out to read and spell confidently, we move on to recognising them/using them in longer reading and dictation passages, as soon as the child is able. I provide 2 reading passages with comprehension exercises and one dictation passage, with a page in the workbook dedicated to it, with room for a picture, which again cements understanding. 3. Write it! Incorporated into the above two steps, we constantly write the new sound. This adds a multi-sensory dimension to our work - we see with our eyes, we sound it with our mouth parts and voice, and then we move by writing. All three steps work together to help the child feel in control of his/her learning and to become a successful, confident learner. We finish each sound with a dictation which culminates our work before we move on to the next sound. I try to give the dictation a week after we finish the work on the EA sound to act as revision. The dictation: Read this passage to your pupil, who should write it. Have the child read his/her work and check for errors. Make sure the writing is completely accurate before saying the child has finished, including full stops and capital letters correctly used. Flashcards are included of some common EA words. This is a first, simple 'learn to write' book teaching letter formation linked to beginning sounds for young children. Learning to write and learning to read go hand in hand, and this book was designed to bring the two together right from the very start. Rather than practising letter shapes in isolation, each page anchors the letter to a picture and a sound, so the child is always connecting what they see, hear and write. Order and steps: Each page has a picture of something that begins with the sound to be practised. The child can colour the picture while thinking about the sound it begins with. The letter is then practised first in lower case, then in upper case, and finally alternating lower and upper case, so the child gets plenty of repetition without it feeling repetitive. Red dots indicate where each letter starts, and arrows show the direction of travel on the first letter of both the upper and lower case rows - useful for parents and teachers who want to be sure they are guiding the child correctly from the outset. Finally, each page finishes with a simple question, encouraging the child to think of other things that begin with that sound, and stretching their spoken vocabulary a little further each time. By teaching the letters alongside their letter sound, we make the learning of phonics truly multisensory - seeing, saying, and writing all working together to help the sound and shape stick. The book is sized perfectly for little hands, making it easy for young children to hold and manage independently as their confidence grows. What is included: 1 PDF. There is one page for each letter.
