Light - Reflection and Refraction Find the Pair Game for Middle School

This is an engaging and enjoyable memory game on reflection in plane mirrors and refraction. Pupils work in teams of three or four. Each team lays out their 42 cards face down in a square and take it in turn to turn over two cards. If the cards are a question and its correct answer, the pupil keeps the pair. If they are not a match they are turned face down and the next pupil gets a turn. This process continues until all cards are matched and the winner is the pupil with the most pairs. If a team member thinks that the selectors pair is not a correct match, they can challenge. Pupils are encouraged to check their books for the correct answer but the teacher also has a quick-check answer sheet. If the challenge is correct, the challenger keeps the pair. 3rd Grade Math Review Game

This is a 3rd Grade Math Review Game. The possibilities for use of these cards are endless! Rather than give instructions for a single game to play, I thought it would benefit you more if I gave you ideas for how you might use them in your own classroom. We all know that no two classrooms are created equal and I want you to feel the FREEDOM that comes with this set of cards… Brainstorm #1: This is How I use these cards The whole-class format. For one week (usually 4 days) I choose 20 questions per day. I number them and hang them around the room. Each student gets a work mat (included in this pack) on which to solve problems and write answers. Students are allowed 2 minutes at each station (maybe 3 depending on the questions). When all students have reached every station, we go through the problems as a class, discuss possible misunderstandings, and they keep a tally of how many they got correct (for their eyes only). At the end of the week, the students tally up how many questions they got correct so they can bask in their awesomeness. I take the tallies so I can see how they’ve done and reteach what I feel needs some extra attention before the end of school. Brainstorm #2 The classic “Jeopardy” format. Put these cards in an array on the board, separate the kids into groups, each group gets a question, one point for a correct answer… Brainstorm #3 The partner quiz format. Put kids in partners, give them each a stack of cards, they ask each other one question at a time. Whoever gets more answers correct is the winner. Brainstorm #4 Use throughout the year format. Use the cards as a review at the end of each domain. They’re color-coded based on the domain, making it easy to fish out what you need at any given time of the year! Brainstorm #5 Quick thinking problems. Use as students are coming in, as tickets out the door, or during self starters or morning work. Just choose a problem and post it on the board. The word problems are particularly nice for self starters. Brainstorm #6 Make lots of copies in all your spare time (just a little joke, there), laminate them, and put them on key-rings for early finishers to use for practice.

Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing skip counting by 8 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on skip counting in 8s! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white. In this resource, students will work together to solve Melody's Mystery! Melody is an actress and has lost something at the Golden Globe Award ceremony. Students will need to decide what is missing, who took it and where it is. Students will work together cooperatively and problem solve together to solve this mystery. There are 18 clues to be passed around to a group of students (4-5 students works best) and then they will read out loud each clue. As they read the clues, the group will eliminate the suspects one by one and there is one person who will cross off the ones that are incorrect. This is a great game for students to play to practice listening skills, leadership skills, problem-solving skills and deductive skills. This is a set of ten lessons for struggling readers to help them develop reading fluency. The lessons cover short vowel words with and without a consonant blend. It includes 10 lessons, 10 decodable Reading Books, 10 matching PowerPoint presentations of the books + 10 packs of worksheets - a pack to support each book. This 10-week curriculum focuses on short vowel sounds and is designed for struggling readers. It includes 10 decodable reading books, each with only 10 new words per book to prevent cognitive overload. This pack is designed for children who have already learned to blend words with a short vowel sound, with both three and four sounds, but have not yet attained reading fluency. We study the ten words in each vowel sound, five each week, and then practice by using the activity pack. The child becomes very familiar with these five words. The child can then be given the next reading book and, to his/her great surprise, can read the book quite fluently without having to decode nearly every word. This gives the child an enormous boost. The process seems, in my experience, to help the child learn what is needed, once they can sound out words _ it helps them to learn how to store the words in the long-term memory, and I find it gets easier and easier as we go through the programme. The worksheets provide multi-sensory activities to help the child develop: Flashcards of the relevant words for each sound Phonemic awareness Strengthen consonant blends, which these children often find hard Tracking skills, which are again poor for many of these children Word differentiation - we tackle confusion words head-on (e.g. big/pig) Comprehension - as reading becomes more fluent, we can now build comprehension Fun print and go games And much, much more! The systematic, repetitive nature of this program makes it suitable for students with special needs, including those with dyslexia, cerebral palsy, or general learning disabilities. Ideal for small groups or one-on-one instruction, it helps develop reading fluency, phonetic awareness, and early writing skills.
