“I Have, Who Has?” – Number Words Game (Christmas Version) In my early elementary classes, I’ve often found that the weeks before winter break call for simple, low-pressure activities that still support learning. That’s why I’ve used this number word version of “I Have, Who Has?” so many times—especially with students who are still building confidence in recognizing numbers and reading number words. The game includes number ranges from 0 to 30, so it’s easy to adapt. For some groups, I only use 0 to 10. For others, I include more cards depending on how comfortable they are with the vocabulary. I’ve even used this as a listening activity in small ESL groups, because it gives students repeated exposure to spoken and written number words in a playful format. There’s also a version with syllable breaks, which helps a lot with early readers or children working on pronunciation. The way we usually play it is simple. Each student receives one or more cards, and the round begins when someone says, “I have one. Who has six?” The game continues until all cards have been played. It takes a few minutes for students to get used to the rhythm, but after that, they’re fully focused and often ask to play another round. It also works well when we play in a circle or in smaller groups during center time. What I like most about this game is that it helps students hear, read, and say numbers in context, without needing worksheets or flashcards. I’ve printed my sets on colored paper to help keep different levels organized, and I keep them in envelopes for easy access year after year. A Nativity Craft – The Birth of Jesus Enjoy the story of Jesus' birth in a delightful way with this Nativity Craft . This craft brings to life the wonderful account of the narrative, which includes Mary, Joseph, the 3 Wise Men, a donkey, a camel, a sheep, and an angel, each designed with detail. The attraction of the craft is the stable with doors that open and close, which will bring an element of fun to your children or students. Above the stable, you will find the stars and an angel shining over the Christ Child. Directions Decide on what templates you will use. If students are coloring the black and white templates. I suggest giving them two days to color and cut out all the pieces. If using the colored templates, students should be able to cut everything out in one day. This craft can be started at the beginning of December and completed in time for Winter break. MATERIALS: · glue or glue stick · double sided foam tape or foam stick-ons · scissors · crayons or colored pencils, etc. · templates of choice (use cardstock for printing the stable) Print out the stable on cardstock. Use regular printer paper for the other pages. There are two pages of doors for both the color and black and white versions. Print those two pages double sided. (if you want to skip printing double sided have students color the inside of the doors brown.) When cutting out the characters, younger students should cut on the dotted line, and older students may be more precise in their cutting. Included in the craft are ten pictures accompanied by instructions that will assist the students and teacher in the assembly of the nativity. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season. Here is a picture of Holly for children to colour this winter! Who is this colouring picture of Holly for? Anybody. Older children will extend the activity further than younger ones, Uses for these colouring sheets Use to help children learn the name of the Holly bush and to recognise it. Use as part of a science lesson on evergreens or trees/plants Paint or colour. Use to make seasonal/Christmas cards The study of the natural world is the foundation for the later study of science. The colouring of pictures of natural things, be it plants or animals is more than a pastime activity. It is a means of familiarising young children with these everyday subjects. The colouring of this Holly spray picture can of course be used as a pastime, or even as part of a creative lesson - the picture looks super made into a greeting card of all kinds. But it has the potential to teach much more. The Curriculum for Science expects children to be taught to use the local environment to study plants and animals, throughout the year. What better than to use familiar subjects - such as Holly which is sure to attract attention in winter when all else looks dead. Be sure to tell the children not to eat Holly berries as they are very poisonous! Colouring can help children to become familiar with the parts of the Holly bush ask questions: What are the leaves like? Who might like to eat the berries? What is inside a berry? (the seeds). Colouring a picture of Holly can also help children become familiar with the particular characteristics of a plant - its shape, colour, and special features, for example. It is best if children colour the Holly picture following close observation, or from reference books, or after having looked at Holly in real life. Why not take a spray into the classroom and carefully let the children feel the prickly leaves? Christmas Counting Mats with Tens Frames

Students will have fun counting up to 10 and practicing fine motor skills with these Christmas tens frames counting mats. These mats allow students to get ample practice counting to 10 with the colorful and fun images centered around a Santa or general Christmas theme. Students will want to complete these cards again and again. What is Included: There is one Santa themed mat for each number 1 through 10. Each mat includes colorful and bright images to keep students engaged in counting. How to Use: Students will take a mat. They will look at the number or number word at the top of the mat, and then use playdough, or other manipulatives to count to the given number by adding the manipulatives to the cookie tray. When to Use: Math Center - These mats can be used in a math center by simply placing the mats and playdough inside each center . Students can work independently or with a partner to complete these mats. Morning Activity - These mats can be placed inside a morning tub or basket for students to work on as classmates arrive to class. Quiet Activity - These mats make a great quiet time activity for students who do not nap. Small Group Activity - Teachers can pull aside small groups of students to practice working on counting. These playdough counting mats are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. They just need to be printed and laminated for durability. These make a great fine motor activity for preschool students. The added fine motor component makes these a perfect activity for students to work on their counting skills as well as improving their hand strength by squeezing and shaping the playdough.
