Chemistry Element Symbol Game – Visual Matching Cards (Christmas Theme) This is a chemistry card game I’ve used in class when we need something more hands-on but still connected to what we’re learning. It works kind of like “Dobble” or “Spot it!”, where you have to find the symbol that two cards have in common. In this case, the cards show element symbols from the first 31 main group elements. No names, just symbols – so it only works if students already know some of them. I usually bring this out in December, when the mood in class is a bit more relaxed but we’re still doing chemistry. The game moves quickly, and students enjoy it once they understand the rules. It doesn’t need any extra materials beyond the cards. Just print them, cut them out, and you’re good to go. There are 93 cards in total, with the same content but in three different shapes: round, square, and hexagon. I printed the square version because it’s easiest to cut, but the round cards look nice too. If you want to keep them for next year, laminating helps. I use it as a warm-up or at a station, sometimes even as a competition in small groups. The best part is that students have to look closely at the symbols and make quick decisions. It really helps with recognition. Some classes get quite into it, and others play more calmly – both work. You can also combine it with coloring beforehand. For example, color all Group 1 elements the same – that makes sorting and grouping easier later. It’s not a complex game, but it keeps the focus on the element symbols without turning it into a test. That’s what I wanted when I made it – something simple that still helps them practise. Early Finishers - When students finish their work, they can complete this dot painting activity while waiting on their classmates to finish their assignments. Quiet Time Activity - Students who have trouble napping can complete one of these dot painting pages while their classmates nap. Displays - These dot painting pictures can be displayed on classroom bulletin boards , doors, or hallways. All of these dot painting pages are no prep. They just need to be printed and given to students to decorate. The teacher will simply need to provide paints of various colors and cotton swabs. This winter multiplication color by code agamograph craft is a fun, engaging, and unique craft for third graders to create, as well as to practice their multiplication facts! This single paged color by code craft produces an image that changes as it is looked upon from different directions. What is Included: There are eight different color by code multiplication worksheets that practice single digit multiplication facts up to 9X9. By providing multiple variations of multiplication fact craft worksheets, teachers can differentiate this multiplication craft for students learning different multiplication facts for fluency purposes. How to Use: Students will first answer the multiplication problems in the key on the upper right-hand side of the page. They will then color each section in the picture according to the product of each multiplication fact. Transition & Inner‑Transition Elements Flashcards – Chemistry Symbol and Name Matching Set Holiday Theme: Christmas This is a printable flashcard set I’ve used in chemistry classes, mostly with upper secondary students. The cards focus on the transition and inner transition elements. So we’re talking about the d-block and f-block – the ones students often find harder to remember, especially when they all start sounding similar. I usually bring this out in December when we’re still covering content but everyone’s a bit tired and ready for a change of pace. The cards have either the element’s name or its symbol. Students have to match the two, and they can do that in pairs or small groups. It works like a memory game or just a straight matching activity, depending on how much time we have. Some years I use the cards just for review, other times we build sorting activities around them. Like dividing the metals into transition, lanthanides and actinides. It depends on the group. Advanced students sometimes add a use or a property for each element as they go, which makes it more of a challenge. There are a lot of cards – over 250 – but I don’t always use them all. You can just print the ones you need. I usually go with thicker paper or cardstock, and if I have time, I laminate them so they last. Once cut, I keep them in envelopes and reuse them next year. The design has a winter look – nothing too bright or distracting, just something that makes it feel a bit more seasonal without being silly. I’ve found it helpful for lessons when you still want students to work with real content, but in a way that feels relaxed. Especially useful before the holidays or at the end of a topic on metals. Everything’s in the file – all cards and a short page with tips. It’s been a helpful tool in my December lessons. 📍 Happy teaching, Heike from Lernfitness Did You Know? 67 Meme Winter Christmas Solving One Step Equations Pixel Art

If "67" has taken over your classroom talk, now is the perfect opportunity to turn it into something useful. This Christmas one step equation pixel art task is riding off the back of the viral trend "67" and giving it a purposeful spin. Rather than seeing a math problem pop up, students see a task with an end goal, something they are curious about completing right away. Students complete twenty equations with one-step solutions for both positive and negative integers. The exercises involve all basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division so that the pupils get excellent practice without overwhelming them. Every time the child gives the correct answer to the equation, a part of a puzzle with a winter scenery will be revealed to the child, and in the end, the well-known number 67 will be visible in winter colors. The digital version is completely self-checking, providing immediate feedback to the student as they complete questions. Incorrect math problems will not be revealed by the picture, prompting the student to take another look and complete the problem again. I find this feature to give the student instant feedback and to give you time to assist other students as they complete independent practice activities. To offer further flexibility, printable versions are provided as choices. These same twenty equations can be found in a worksheet form, making it simple to assign for homework or in-class work without technology. You will also see a complete toolbox of printable task cards, great for centers, group work, or a scuttlebutt rotation. A complete answer key is provided for easy assessment or review by students. This activity is perfect when done in December, when children tend to be especially energetic and have a hard time sitting still. It’s exciting enough to be seasonal and entertaining, yet formalized enough to provide actual value in improving their expertise. It’s also a great go-to activity in case of an emergency sub plan with no prep work involved. The skills that have been reinforced are the following: performing operations on one-step equations involving all four operations and developing fluency with positive and negative integers. Students are getting repetition without boredom and feedback without frustration.
