AM Words Fluency Practice

Kindergartners and first graders will get a ton of practice reading AM words with these fluency activities. All target words are part of the AM word family. Students will practice reading these CVC words in isolation as well as in context of a simple sentence or passage. What is Included: Word Fluency Strips - These three strips only contain AM words in isolation. Students will practice reading the words on the strips until words are mastered. Sentence Strips - The sentence strips contain AM words in the context of simple sentences. Sentence Fluency Worksheet - Students will read the simple sentences then pick one sentence to illustrate in the box at the bottom of the worksheet. Reading Comprehension Passage - Students will read the story containing AM words three times then answer two comprehension questions and draw a picture to illustrate the story. Sentence Pyramids - There are eight sentence pyramids where students will read each sentence, adding a new word on each line. How to Use: These activities word very well in a reading or phonics center for students to work on independently or with a partner. They make great small group activities. Teachers can pull aside small groups of students who need extra practice reading AM words with fluency. The sentence fluency worksheets and reading comprehension page can be utilized as homework to send home for students to complete. Skills Assessed: These fluency worksheets and activities assess students' ability to read AM words in isolation or in the context of sentences. Students will practice reading comprehension skills with the reading passage page. The worksheets are print and go, no prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. They just need to be printed out and given to students to complete. The sentence strips and pyramid cards need to be printed and cut apart. These low prep cards can also be laminated for durability if desired.

This product, designed for learners in Pre-K and kindergarten, aligns with language arts standards. You’ll begin this mini-unit by reading the story, A Great Day for Gordon, where your learners will meet the title character and follow along throughout his exciting journey. To reinforce concepts in the story, your learners will play the hands-on learning activity and focus on positional language with words such as in, out, under, near, far, and around. This foundational skill will lead to a better understanding in asking or answering questions about stories and reading passages. The 5 worksheets will give your learners the opportunity to strengthen fine motor skills through tracing, coloring, drawing, and writing. They will identify the locations of Gordon and Gabby using specific prepositional words and match prepositions with their opposites. To round out the worksheets, your learners will write a prepositional sentence based off a prompt and illustrate their writing. The three main components of this product are sure to engage your learners and have them wanting to hear Gordon’s story again and again. In this SEL Boom Deck, students will learn about flower (healthy), weed (bothersome) and cactus (unhealthy) friendship behaviors. It is important for students to learn some of the behaviors that are bothersome and frustrating and to learn that they do need to address these sooner rather than later. Just like a weed ignored or not wanting to be dealt with, it can get worse and impact the friendship in a negative way. Some examples of flower (healthy) behaviors are; letting your friends have other friends, being there to help, standing up for them (being an upstander), and many more. Some of the weed (bothersome) examples are; bragging, copying a friend, not paying a friend back for borrowing money, and more. Some examples of cactus (unhealthy) behaviors are; being mad if something good happens to a friend, putting a friend down, gossiping, not letting a friend join their other friends, and many more. There are 24 task playing cards and 5 instructional cards so this can be played as a whole classroom lesson, a small group lesson, with partners or assigned to individuals to do as homework. There is a handout that matches the concepts for students to fill out to remember the different friendship behaviors and a question about what they can do if there friend is exhibiting either a weed or cactus type friendship behavior. This is a Boom Deck that is great for 3rd grade, 4th grade, 5th grade, and sixth grade. If there are strong readers or the classroom teacher or school counselor can read each slide, this could be something 2nd grader also do.
