This sight word emergent reader packet contains three different sight word reading books that help differentiate sight word instruction. This emergent reader focuses on the sight word: big. Books Included: Reading Fluency - With this book, students simply read each simple sentence and color the picture. Write and Read - Students will color the picture, write the target sight word, then read the sentences. Trace and Read - Students will color the picture, trace the target sight word, then read the sentences. This book allows students to read simple sentences with the target sight word. The different books available help support students of various levels of be successful with reading and writing sight words. How to Make: Teachers will print out the pages and give them to the students to color, write and trace. They will then cut the pages apart and staple them together to create their book. When to Use: Literacy Center - These emergent readers can be used in literacy center for students to practice these sight words. Homework - These emergent readers can be sent home from homework so parents can assist students in learning their sight words. Independent Practice - These emergent readers make great independent practice for students learning sight words. Sub Plans - Since these emergent readers have easy to follow directions, they make great activities to leave with substitutes. Reading Center - The teacher can create these emergent readers (or students can create their own copies) to be placed in a reading center or class library to read the books again and again. These emergent readers are a great no-prep activity for teachers to give to students to complete. The pages just need to be printed and given to students. Students will need scissors and a stapler (or tape) to put the book together. Skills Assessed: Students will practice recognizing sight words. If chosen, students can also practice writing or tracing the target sight word.

A beautiful nature journaling set for children. Youngsters can combine my own watercolor pre-painted characters (coyote, roadrunner, quail, reptiles, and cacti) with the stunningly illustrated background scene. The scene has plenty of space for children to add their own drawings and writing to create wonderful journal pages to treasure. This set ideally lends itself to the study of animals and plants in North America's deserts, record observations in nature around you, or combine with study from books and objects. The sheet of illustrations makes ideal additions to nature displays. To create a tactile finished item I highly recommend printing onto high-quality paper, I like to use watercolor paper as this also allows the children to add their own paintings to the pages they create and means that every piece looks and feels like an original painting.

These types of strategies have been researched and shown to improve student learning, especially for ELLs. This Vocab Grab Bag game combines both academic vocabulary building and student interaction. When students participate in this activity, they are explicitly required to interact with both academic language and content at the same time. Alternate option #1: When all word cards have been used, transition to putting the words in alphabetical order, using the Alphabetizing Mat. 8. Alternate option #2: If all word cards have been used, return all the cards to the container and start over again. Teacher tips •Do not skip the praise step, it is important and surprisingly fun! •If you have a student in the very early stages of learning English, consider letting them keep Job 1 or Job 2 for the entire game . •Project the instructions at the front of the room for students to refer to while playing.

Playing the Game After the titles and information about the game, the first game will begin. Students will be shown a close-up photo of an object and have to guess what it is. Press the = button for the answer and the original photo with word will appear. Press the arrow button to move onto the next question. 6 questions in total. Second game is a memory game. Starting with three pictures and ending up with six, students have ten seconds to observe the pictures on the screen, then need to say the words they remember. The picture page will automatically move on after ten seconds but if you wish to move on yourself quicker then there is an arrow button. In the answer screen, answers will flash if correct, dim if incorrect. Finally game is more like a question and answer, but in two parts. In the part, there will be a clue and 3-6 words to choose from. Press the correct answer. In the second section you will get the reverse, one word and then two to three clues to choose from. Choose the correct clue for the word. Includes arrows to move onto the next page.
