A cut-and-trace activity gives students a rectilinear shape to cut out, then decompose into up to six smaller rectangles, tracing each piece onto a grid and recording its area in square inches before summing the parts used for the whole shape's total area; a possible-solution page shows one way to divide it (five pieces totaling 103 in²). A second activity presents nine rectilinear figures already drawn on graph paper, and students draw their own lines to split each into squares or rectangles, then record each figure's total area on a separate log page — the first figure is solved as a model. An answer key supplies total areas for all nine figures on the second activity.
