Understanding emotions is a pivotal social-emotional skill for children to develop. This set of four worksheets helps students identify and process their feelings in a structured, reflective way. With 4 different worksheets for happy, sad, angry, and worried, children can build their emotional intelligence through self-expression. Positive Thinking Worksheet – Reflection Activity

Positive Thinking Worksheet – Reflection Activity
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Education Needs (SEN), Not Grade Specific, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets

Worksheet in which children can reflect on a specific situation that happened to them: they can think about what they were thinking, how they reacted and how they felt. They can then think about a more positive thoughts they could have had and how that may have changed their reactions and emotions. Changing how you think about a situation can lead to more positive thinking and emotions through a process called cognitive restructuring. Here's how it works: 1) Identifying negative thoughts: The first step is to become aware of your negative or distorted thoughts about a situation. These thoughts are often automatic and may involve cognitive distortions such as catastrophizing, overgeneralization, or personalization. 2) Examining evidence: Once you've identified the negative thoughts, you can challenge them by examining the evidence supporting or contradicting them. Look for alternative explanations or more balanced perspectives. 3) Generating alternative thoughts: Generate alternative, more realistic, and positive thoughts related to the situation. These new thoughts should be based on evidence and provide a more balanced view of the situation. For example, if your negative thought is "I always fail at everything," a more balanced alternative thought could be "I have had successes in the past, and this setback does not define my abilities." 4) Evaluating the impact: Reflect on how adopting these new thoughts might change your emotions and overall outlook. Consider the potential positive outcomes or shifts in perspective that may result from the new way of thinking. 5) Practicing and reinforcing new thoughts: Actively replace negative thoughts with the more positive and realistic thoughts you've identified. This process requires practice and repetition to strengthen the new cognitive patterns. Over time, it becomes more automatic and natural. By engaging in cognitive restructuring, you can gradually shift your thinking patterns, leading to more positive thoughts and emotions. By challenging negative thoughts and replacing them with more accurate and constructive ones, you can reduce negative emotions such as anxiety, sadness, or anger, and cultivate more positive emotions like optimism, self-confidence, and resilience. This change in thinking can have a profound impact on your overall well-being and how you perceive and respond to various situations in your life. Four Corners SEL Activity + 2 Emotions Crosswords

Four Corners SEL Activity + 2 Emotions Crosswords
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, Crosswords Puzzles, Worksheets, Worksheets & Printables

In this SEL game and "get to know you game" students get to choose their preferences based on this four corners game. In the SEL presentation, there is a description of corner 1,2,3,4 so kids don't get confused. There is a screen that shows a picture of a typical classroom with each corner labeled. There is a side that is labeled "Front" so students know where the front of the classroom is. The questions are preference questions like "What is your favorite food?" "What is your favorite thing to learn in school?" "What is your favorite thing to do at recess?" and many more. There are 24 questions slides and a "warm up" slide. One student stands in the middle with their eyes closed and after students scurry to a corner based on their preferences, the student in the middle points to a corner and that group has to sit down. The rest of the students move on the the next round and the student in the middle joins the group. Then someone else is chosen to be in the middle. There are also 2 crosswords related to emotions and feelings. I would highly recommend word banks for these as some of the emotions may be too subjective for the younger students to know. If you enjoy this product and other sel products, please visit my SEL store here: https://teachsimple.com/contributor/jennifer-moyer-taylor Here are some other products you may enjoy: https://teachsimple.com/product/icebreaker-back-to-school-battle-brackets (These are icebreaker battle brackets! There are 4 topics and one blank one that you can customize. The 4 topics are; snacks, sports, summer activities and music genres. This is a great back to school activity or an activity for a new trimester with new students. Students battle to see which snack "wins" or which "sport" wins. This gets the kids sharing about their own interests and learning about the interest of other students in their class.

Literacy Readers Overview This product is perfect for small group instruction, such as guided reading, strategy groups, or interventions. It could also be used for independent reading, homework, or holiday work. It could also be used for literacy stations, read-aloud practice, or sub plans. Extension Ideas There are several ways to extend the lesson, including reading twice—first for understanding, and the second time to find the key details. Perhaps you can highlight or underline a detail that answers the comprehension questions. You can also turn it into a writing activity: What did you learn, or retell the story using first, next, then, finally. You could even choose a vocabulary word, draw it, with a caption from the text. For more advanced learners, perhaps you can compare this to another text they have read recently. Differentiation Tips For differentiation, if the words are hard, then perhaps you can preview some of them before you begin. For responses, perhaps you can give the students the first few words, for example, “In the book…”. You can also pair up the students, which normally leads to one of them helping the other. You can read it through again for fluency. Perhaps you can read two or three pages at a time and then come together as a group and analyze. Getting kids to enjoy writing during the early elementary years is key. One way we can do that is to tie in their interests to the writing process. Business skills encapsulate so many other life skills: resilience, creativity, public speaking, financial literacy, and more! By taking the time to reflect on their experience, young entrepreneurs can continue to refine their business skills for the next fair. Thinking about the way we think is a foundational skill for growing the executive functions our kiddos will use in the editing process. For this reason, a short checklist has been included at the end of page 4 so that learners can begin to go back and check their work. This key skill in developing healthy executive functioning is intentionally made visible to students to prompt ownership over the quality of their writing. STANDARDS: Meets CCSS Writing standards for grades 2-5. Don't forget to check out the Chef's Toolbox, Superhero's Toolbox, and Astronaut's Toolbox activities for more fun! These activities can be used with a whole class in addition to the writing challenge printable. This printable is optimal for 2nd-5th graders as they continue to develop solid writing skills, but could use some support and scaffolding to do it. By using the included matrix to choose the setting, challenge, and solution in their story, they'll use the freedom afforded them to create something they love. BONUS: Take advantage of the 4 extension activity ideas included in this printable. These activities will take their writing beyond the page and bring it to life in STEAM-supported outlets. What you'll get: a 4 page PDF including instructions, extension activity ideas, and 3 student pages. One of these pages is simply writing space for you to print off as many copies as you need based on the amount your students are writing. You'll also find the editing checklist to prompt students to edit their own work for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
