If there is one thing we can count on young learners to absolutely love, it would be animals! From a very young age, many young children strike an interest in animals of all kinds. We know that incorporating interests in our lessons can increase student engagement. There are many ways to incorporate animals into learning! This is an Animal Dominoes Game. There are 3 pages included. There are 10 dominoes on each page, so there are 30 dominoes in all. You will print these pages on card stock and laminate them for durability before cutting them out. Just like the classic game of dominoes, students will work to match up a pair of equal dominoes. This can be played in partners or in small groups of 3-4 students. This is a Solving Equations Introduction Activity that your elementary students will love. The objective is for students to problem-solve to find the number of balls hidden inside boxes. This is an activity designed for 2nd – 4th grade students. It is a cooperative partner activity. Purpose of the lesson: --For students to try to solve equations (disguised so they don’t “look like” equations) by problem-solving. --For students to develop an intuitive process for solving an equation. --For students to see solving equations in a concrete, visual way (balls and boxes) before moving to the abstract (equations without context). The activity provides a low entry point so all students can engage and increase in rigor as the lesson progresses. As you work through each slide, you will be able to click "show solution" after time is up for students. Bank Account Board Game: A Fun, Financial Literacy Lesson for Addition, Subtraction, or Integer Practice (Grades 3-7) Do you want to give your students real world math practice for addition and subtraction up to 4 digits? Do you want to show them how the math they learn in the classroom is helpful in everyday life? Do you want to find a way to have them practice loads of math without even noticing? Then this financial literacy board game is perfect for you! How to Use: Print the two page handout double-sided for each student. Go through the bank account vocabulary together as a class. Then give your students time to try to match the vocabulary words to the clues. Next, talk about what actions help your bank balance and what actions hurt it, and try to think of more examples as a class. Now you are ready for the game! Print a game board for each group of 2-4 students, have six-sided dice, and small objects to use as counters. The game’s main objective is to educate students about financial literacy concepts such as spending (withdrawing) and saving (depositing) money within the context of a bank account. Each child takes turns rolling a six-sided die while using counters on the board. Students start with a $300 bank balance, and each turn leads them to a realistic scenario that increases or decreases their balance. I encourage students to use a scrap piece of paper to keep a running tally of their balance throughout the game. Although rare, some sequences of turns can result in negative balances. Need a fun, engaging activity for practicing skip counting by 8 with your kiddos? This math bingo game is perfect for getting your students focused on skip counting in 8s! Preparation: Print and laminate enough Bingo Boards for each student to have one Optional: print, cut and laminate the Playing Squares Print, cut and laminate the Calling Cards. Lamination is optional, but recommended, as it will ensure that the game remains in good condition and can be used for many years to come! To avoid excessive printing and laminating, the Playing Squares could be replaced with other manipulatives such as buttons or counters. Alternatively, students could mark squares off on their Bingo Boards with dry erase markers and then simply clean the boards again after playing (provided that you have laminated the boards) How to Play: Each student needs a Bingo Board and at least 7 Playing Squares (or other manipulatives or a dry erase marker) Shuffle the Calling Cards and place them in a pile. Draw a Calling Card and call out and/or display the contents of the card. Each student looks on their Bingo Board for a block that matches the Calling Card. If they find one, they cover that block with a Playing Square. Draw a new Calling Card and repeat the process. The game continues until somebody wins. To win, a student must shout out “BINGO!” when they have covered three blocks in a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally). If the Calling Cards run out before anybody wins, simply shuffle them again and continue playing. Please note: Sometimes there may be more than one block on the Bingo Board that matches the Calling Card. The student may only cover one block on a turn. Once that turn is over, the Playing Square may not be moved to cover a different block. This resource includes 5 different bingo board, in colour as well as black and white.
