Pressing any of these will start a sequence (pictures flashing) that upon finishing, students must repeat. About the Game This game is a great way to practice long I and gives the teacher complete control over the difficulty and game time. Pick the Apples — ea or ee Spelling Families Card Game: A game for 2 players A simple, fun board game I made to help children distinguish between ea and ee: two digraphs that sound the same but belong to different spelling families. Reading words with these sounds is straightforward once the patterns have been taught — but spelling is much harder. The child must remember not just the sound, but which family the word belongs to. Does feet use ee ? Does eat use ea ? This game gives children repeated, low-pressure practice sorting words into the right family, building the kind of memory that eventually makes correct spelling automatic. How to play: Each player takes a tree baseboard loaded with apple cards. Sound cards ( ea and ee ) and a couple of bad apple cards go into a feely bag. Picture cards are laid face up on the table. On each turn, a player draws a sound card from the bag and must find a picture card showing a word that contains that sound. A Word Bank Card is on hand for checking — the adult can help younger or less confident children locate the right word at first. A correct match lets the player keep the cards and move one apple from the tree to the basket. Draw a bad apple card, and the turn is lost. The first player to pick all their apples wins. Games make for stress-free learning! The bad apple cards introduce an element of luck that children love — and which serves a real purpose. When a child loses, it was the bad apple's fault, not theirs. For children who are used to struggling, that small thing makes a surprising difference. They stay in the game, stay relaxed, and the sorting and matching does its work quietly in the background. Useful for assessment too! Teachers will find the game useful for assessment too. Watch how the child approaches each picture card. Are they thinking about the sound and searching their memory for the right spelling family? Or are they recognising words by sight and hoping for the best? The answer tells you a lot about what to do next.

Alphabet Matching Game | Beginning Sounds | Letter Recognition

This printable alphabet game includes 26 matching boards (A–Z) and more than 100 picture cards. Children look at the letter in the center of the board, say each picture aloud, and match the cards with the correct beginning sound. Each letter has its own board, allowing children to focus on one sound at a time instead of working with the entire alphabet at once. This makes the activity easy to adapt for introducing new letters, reviewing previously learned ones, or providing extra practice for students who need it. As children play, they strengthen letter recognition, connect letters with their beginning sounds, and expand their everyday vocabulary. Saying each word before placing the card also encourages careful listening and helps reinforce the relationship between spoken and written language. The activity requires very little preparation. Simply print the pages, cut out the picture cards, and the game is ready to use. Laminating the pieces will make them durable for repeated use. A pack of 35 Phonic reading books with matching PowerPoints and workbooks to support learning. This is an incremental phonics reading scheme with a difference. Introducing just 10 words in each phonics family, the words are repeated from book to book, giving even those with very poor word recall the chance to learn to read fluently without having to decode every word. Ideal for dyslexics, or those suspected of being dyslexic and all children with a special need. These reading books make the pupil feel safe - they have already met every word introduced in the stories. They have the skills to read them themselves. This is empowering and confidence-building. The books cover these sounds and must be taught in this order: CK; OO; SH; CH; ND/NT; NK; TH; NG; AR; OR; A-E; I-E, O-R, U-E, AI, EA, OA, IGH Rationale: It has long been proven that teaching children to decode is a powerful tool for teaching reading, as opposed to the Look and Say method. However, this has led to a proliferation of reading books that throw as many words with a shared phonics sound into a book as possible, not realising that some children with very poor word recall find it hard to recognise words when they see them again without much repetition. To combat this problem, while we recognise that, technically, once a child has been taught a new sound s/he can sound out many words with that new sound, when it comes to reading fluently a child needs a core set of words in each family that they can recognise, which can act as a launch pad as they gain confidence. These books have been designed accordingly. For each sound family, just 10 words are studied with the help of the workbooks and are then repeated throughout the books, each book building on the vocabulary that has already been learned, repeating it and including it in new phrases as new sounds are learned. As the programme progresses, new sounds from the learned families are incorporated to widen vocabulary, while taking care to maintain fluency. The books are designed to limit guessing (though most children will try and guess, which must be avoided at all costs). Pluses of this phonics reading programme Easy to print Cheap to buy compared with expensive reading schemes They are just as effective as the best reading programmes out there, and more importantly, they have been tried and tested on real children with severe difficulties and proven to work if the child is taught as outlined. Aligned with the aims and objectives of LETRS and the Science of Reading. They work! My pupils tell me if they don't work, so I re-edit them and try them before I put them out for the general public. Introduces most high-frequency words in the phonics family to which they belong, and gradually introduces genuine, non-decodable sight words into the text without causing overload or throwing the child off course. Each book is 12/16/20 pages long, with minimal colour pictures to make printing cheaper and to help tell the story when words are minimal Each book comes with a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for online teaching, for private tutors, parents, classroom assistants, etc... This is a set of ten lessons for struggling readers to help them develop reading fluency. The lessons cover short vowel words with and without a consonant blend. It includes 10 lessons, 10 decodable Reading Books, 10 matching PowerPoint presentations of the books + 10 packs of worksheets - a pack to support each book. This 10-week curriculum focuses on short vowel sounds and is designed for struggling readers. It includes 10 decodable reading books, each with only 10 new words per book to prevent cognitive overload. This pack is designed for children who have already learned to blend words with a short vowel sound, with both three and four sounds, but have not yet attained reading fluency. We study the ten words in each vowel sound, five each week, and then practice by using the activity pack. The child becomes very familiar with these five words. The child can then be given the next reading book and, to his/her great surprise, can read the book quite fluently without having to decode nearly every word. This gives the child an enormous boost. The process seems, in my experience, to help the child learn what is needed, once they can sound out words _ it helps them to learn how to store the words in the long-term memory, and I find it gets easier and easier as we go through the programme. The worksheets provide multi-sensory activities to help the child develop: Flashcards of the relevant words for each sound Phonemic awareness Strengthen consonant blends, which these children often find hard Tracking skills, which are again poor for many of these children Word differentiation - we tackle confusion words head-on (e.g. big/pig) Comprehension - as reading becomes more fluent, we can now build comprehension Fun print and go games And much, much more! The systematic, repetitive nature of this program makes it suitable for students with special needs, including those with dyslexia, cerebral palsy, or general learning disabilities. Ideal for small groups or one-on-one instruction, it helps develop reading fluency, phonetic awareness, and early writing skills. Playing the Game After the front screen the game begins. First round is short O, second round is long O. There are navigational buttons at the top of the screen. The Grid will appear with a word on the left side. Choose the correct picture for each word. Correct answer will flash, incorrect answer will dim. Coordinates are provided. They can be used for cases where students cannot touch the screen or for assessment or further practice purposes. Here is a set of 6 simple phonics game to help children learn to read CVC words. These games will help your child to learn to blend three-letter words with a short vowel sound. That means, to put sounds together to make a word. The child has to be able to feel and hear the word that is being sounded out. These games are supplied in both colour and black for eco printing. We suggest laminating the pieces for durability. Who are the CVC Words Phonics Games for? Those who are just beginning to sound out/blend CVC words These may be: Young learners Special needs learners ESL/EFL learners of any age. Who can use the CVC Words Phonics Games? Parents Homeschoolers/home educators Teachers in class, or for use in centers Those involved in intervention work Private tutors How can the CVC Words Phonics Games be used? They can be played as a game for 2 players They can be used as a matching activity for individual pupils They can be used for assessment purposes To make the CVC Words Phonics Games, Simply print as instructed, Teach your pupil to take care of the cards and not bend them more than can be helped. Full instructions are given for each game. Preparation is simple: Print the relevant pages Cut out the word/picture/letter cards Play as instructed. Teaching tips: Demonstrate how to sound out a word when it is your turn and invite your pupil’s help when it is your turn, so s/he gets even more practice.
