A pack of 35 Phonic reading books with matching PowerPoints and workbooks to support learning. This is an incremental phonics reading scheme with a difference. Introducing just 10 words in each phonics family, the words are repeated from book to book, giving even those with very poor word recall the chance to learn to read fluently without having to decode every word. Ideal for dyslexics, or those suspected of being dyslexic and all children with a special need. These reading books make the pupil feel safe - they have already met every word introduced in the stories. They have the skills to read them themselves. This is empowering and confidence-building. The books cover these sounds and must be taught in this order: CK; OO; SH; CH; ND/NT; NK; TH; NG; AR; OR; A-E; I-E, O-R, U-E, AI, EA, OA, IGH Rationale: It has long been proven that teaching children to decode is a powerful tool for teaching reading, as opposed to the Look and Say method. However, this has led to a proliferation of reading books that throw as many words with a shared phonics sound into a book as possible, not realising that some children with very poor word recall find it hard to recognise words when they see them again without much repetition. To combat this problem, while we recognise that, technically, once a child has been taught a new sound s/he can sound out many words with that new sound, when it comes to reading fluently a child needs a core set of words in each family that they can recognise, which can act as a launch pad as they gain confidence. These books have been designed accordingly. For each sound family, just 10 words are studied with the help of the workbooks and are then repeated throughout the books, each book building on the vocabulary that has already been learned, repeating it and including it in new phrases as new sounds are learned. As the programme progresses, new sounds from the learned families are incorporated to widen vocabulary, while taking care to maintain fluency. The books are designed to limit guessing (though most children will try and guess, which must be avoided at all costs). Pluses of this phonics reading programme Easy to print Cheap to buy compared with expensive reading schemes They are just as effective as the best reading programmes out there, and more importantly, they have been tried and tested on real children with severe difficulties and proven to work if the child is taught as outlined. Aligned with the aims and objectives of LETRS and the Science of Reading. They work! My pupils tell me if they don't work, so I re-edit them and try them before I put them out for the general public. Introduces most high-frequency words in the phonics family to which they belong, and gradually introduces genuine, non-decodable sight words into the text without causing overload or throwing the child off course. Each book is 12/16/20 pages long, with minimal colour pictures to make printing cheaper and to help tell the story when words are minimal Each book comes with a matching PowerPoint, making it suitable for online teaching, for private tutors, parents, classroom assistants, etc... These fruit themed alphabet cards are perfect for students who are learning in the about fruit. They make the perfect tool for students to learn the letters of the alphabet. What is Included: This set includes one capital letter card and one lowercase letter card for each letter. Ways to Use the Cards: Play a matching game by matching the capital letters to the lowercase letters. Attach a paper clip to a letter card and use a magnetic fishing pole to "catch" the letters for a fun fishing game. Use a sand or salt tray for students to practice writing the letters on each card. These fruit alphabet cards are a great activity for students to practice letter recognition during the spring months. They are a low prep activity for teachers to prepare for students. Simply print, cut apart and laminate for durability. These cards can be stored in a task box for easy set up, clean up, and storage. With a range of clues and eye-catching pictures, the pace of the game allows the teacher to control the time to fit their own needs. Eight pictures are on the screen at any one time so the teacher may want to use this time to ask those students not yet participating in the game. Many clues are lengthy so will practice reading sentences. On each slide, there are 8 pictures and a clue will appear. Click the correct picture for each clue. This game pack has been designed to give children much practice of hearing the initial (or beginning) sound of a word, that very first crucial skill in learning to read and spell using phonics. It is hoped that as the child has fun playing the games that the child's phonetic awareness can be developed. To make: There are three ways in which you can play the ‘Shopping Game’. 1. Fill the Trolley: Choose the empty shopping trolleys as baseboards and cut up the picture cards. 2. Empty the Trolley! Choose the full trolleys as baseboards and ‘empty’ the food out of the trolley. 3. Going Shopping! Choose the shopping lists as baseboards and cut up the picture cards. The games are all for 2 players. Choose which game you will play (first!) and print the necessary pages. Laminating the pieces will make them last longer if you will be playing with multiple children. To play: Talk about each of the picture cards. Check that the child can name the food type and think about the initial sound of each. Game 1: Fill the Trolley: Players take a shopping trolley each, and the picture cards are scattered face down on the table. Players take it turns to choose a picture card. The player names the item of food and then both listens to and ‘feels’ the initial sound as the mouth produces the sound (multisensory). The player looks to see if s/he has that sound in his/her trolley. If so, the picture is placed in the trolley, over that letter. If a player takes a food item that begins with a sound that either s/he does not have on his/her board, or that s/he already has, then the picture should be placed back face down on the table. The winner is the player that fills his/her trolley first. Game 2: Empty the Trolley! This game is played in the same way as above, only the food items are taken out of the trolley as the initial letter cards are chosen from the table, the winner being the player who empties his/her trolley first. Game 3: Going Shopping This game uses the Shopping List baseboards. The pictures of food items are again scattered face down on the table and play proceeds as for the previous two games , the winner being the player who completes his/her shopping list first. Tips for Teaching: Do constantly model hearing and saying the initial sounds of the food items. Also, have the child copy you as you say them. Look for signs that the child is beginning to recognise which letter makes which sound, and can hear the initial sounds of the words for him/herself.
