In this SEL game, students will learn and practice cooperation skills. They will be in groups of 3-4 and they will do a cooperation scavenger hunt together. There are 5 tasks for them to complete. They can complete these in any order they wish. There is a find the hidden objects tasks where students will work together to find the hidden objects in the picture. This resource contains 2 different hidden objects sheets to choose from or you could offer both types for the task. There is a task where the group will create a team name. Another task is about creating a special handshake made up of 6 moves. Another task of for the group to come up with 5 things they all have in common. Lastly, there is a task where they will do 10 jumping jacks or wall push-ups all together. This is a very fun, engaging SEL activity where there is a mix of physical movement, concentration, creativity and more. This activity is great for students in grades 2nd-5th. At the end of the activity, students can share their special handshakes, their team names, what 5 things they have in common with one another. It is also a time to discuss what type of cooperation skills were used in this activity. Short A: Riddle Time Sample Game Note: This download is in PowerPoint show mode to protect the rights of the image creator(s), and is thus UNEDITABLE. Playing the Game The question slide will begin with a clue and the amount of points available for guessing the correct word with this clue alone. Students can write/say their answers. Clicking the curved arrow on the right will make the next clue appear. This will have a lower points value but gives another clue for students to guess the word on. Again, press the curved arrow for the final clue. This is pretty much a a give away ie. you put this on your head, so students win at least five points on each round. Press the arrow for the answer. A pic will also appear but immediately become semi-transparent so you can still see the clues underneath if you wish to go through them. Press the square in the bottom right corner to go to the next page. Will be harder for early learners due to the amount of reading so you may have to read it out and help with some meanings. Words come up clearly so are easy to read, you may want to ask students to spell the word before revealing it. Teachers have complete control over the length of each slide as clues comes out one-by-one. This is a phonics AR game to help children, especially those with special needs, read words with the digraph 'AR'. Who can use this AR game? Any who need to use the digraph ar! But it is especially for those with special needs: games can take the pressure out of learning to read, especially for those who have become despondent or are reluctant for any reason. They are fun and take the child's mind off of the tedium, and winning is not dependent on their ability to read - it is the 'way the game goes'. What can it be used for? Why not send it home for homework? It can be used as a discrete form of assessment: is the pupil using knowledge of letter sounds , or GUESSING, which will lead to failure? What is included in the pack? Full instructions are given. The game comes in both black and white and colour versions. Children can be encouraged to colour the black-and-white version, and this will help the words in the 'ar' family to be established firmly in the child's mind. There are 3 boards with matching picture/word cards in both black and white and colour. Aim of the game: To help children to be able to sound out, or recognise, words with ‘ar’ in them, quickly. How to prepare the game: Choose either black and white or coloured. The children can colour the black and white boards, which will help to fix the words together in their minds as being in the same family. The game boards come in pairs: For each pair, choose one to be a board and cut the other up into individual picture/word cards. If only two people are playing, then they can choose which sets of pictures and cards they use. How to play: This is a game for two or three players. The teacher should watch if two children are playing together. Each player takes a game board. The matching letter/picture cards are scattered on the table face down. Players take it in turns to choose a card from the table. The child looks to see if s/he has the matching word or picture on his/her board. If so, the card is placed in position on the board. If not, it is returned to the pool on the table. The winner is the first person to complete his/her board. Teaching tips: Support children to sound words out/blend them as needed. Here's a no-prep math geometry game that will get your students excited to measure the perimeter of compound shapes (also called complex shapes or composite shapes). It's a simple dice game that actually uses a fair bit of strategy- so your students can start to figure out ways to win as they play more than once. They will be calculating the perimeter of a variety of compound complex or composite shapes. Students can also learn more by calculating the area of the shapes they create throughout the game! A sample round of the game is included to teach it easily to your students! How to Use: 1) Player One picks a starting spot. They roll and draw a line the length of their roll. 2) Player Two begins their turn at the end of Player One’s line. They roll and draw a line the length of their roll. 3) Once the perimeter of the shape is over forty units, the first player to complete the shape wins the game! 4) If you can not close the shape with the rolls given, it will be a tie. 5) BONUS: Both players can calculate the area of the complex compound or composite shape. Grades to Use With: This game is designed for students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th grade who are learning about calculating perimeter using whole numbers on a variety of complex compound or composite shapes.
