Pick the Apples — ea or ee Spelling Families Card Game: A game for 2 players A simple, fun board game I made to help children distinguish between ea and ee: two digraphs that sound the same but belong to different spelling families. Reading words with these sounds is straightforward once the patterns have been taught — but spelling is much harder. The child must remember not just the sound, but which family the word belongs to. Does feet use ee ? Does eat use ea ? This game gives children repeated, low-pressure practice sorting words into the right family, building the kind of memory that eventually makes correct spelling automatic. How to play: Each player takes a tree baseboard loaded with apple cards. Sound cards ( ea and ee ) and a couple of bad apple cards go into a feely bag. Picture cards are laid face up on the table. On each turn, a player draws a sound card from the bag and must find a picture card showing a word that contains that sound. A Word Bank Card is on hand for checking — the adult can help younger or less confident children locate the right word at first. A correct match lets the player keep the cards and move one apple from the tree to the basket. Draw a bad apple card, and the turn is lost. The first player to pick all their apples wins. Games make for stress-free learning! The bad apple cards introduce an element of luck that children love — and which serves a real purpose. When a child loses, it was the bad apple's fault, not theirs. For children who are used to struggling, that small thing makes a surprising difference. They stay in the game, stay relaxed, and the sorting and matching does its work quietly in the background. Useful for assessment too! Teachers will find the game useful for assessment too. Watch how the child approaches each picture card. Are they thinking about the sound and searching their memory for the right spelling family? Or are they recognising words by sight and hoping for the best? The answer tells you a lot about what to do next.

Simply print, cut apart and laminate for durability. These cards can be stored in a task box for easy set up, clean up, and storage. This is a Let's Talk About School Board Game. All you have to do is print this game board and grab a pair of dice. The game board can be printed in color or black and white. This simple game board is great for your English-speaking students and your ESL students who are building their language skills in the English language. Students can work in pairs or groups of 3-4. You can also pull students in a small group with you to better assess their progress and mastery. These board games are great because they come in a variety of themes and topics, so students will be able to increase their vocabulary. You can choose to do a few different activities when you use these board games : 1.Students can take turns rolling the dice. They will move that many places on the board. Whatever space they land on, they can read the question out loud and answer it verbally with their partner or group. 2.Same as number 1, but the partner can answer the question instead of the person who rolled the dice. 3.Same as number 1, but both partners (or everybody in the group) can write their answer down on paper. 4.Same as number 1, but students can practice writing down the question and their individual answer to the question. If you choose to make it a competition, then whoever reaches the end of the board first wins!

Sight Words Fluency Game for Kindergarten through Grade 3 This sight words learning game helps build reading fluency with Fry's first 100 high frequency words. Students race to identify and "swat" the sight words called out by the teacher. The game can be played whole group or in small groups. Print the words on cardstock, laminate for durability, and cut apart to make game pieces. Provide each student with a fly swatter. The teacher calls out a sight word and students race to find and cover the matching word with their swatter. The first student to identify and swat the correct word wins the card. For more of a challenge, cover the swatters with an additional piece of laminated cardstock. Attach with packing tape or glue. The cover forces students to visually focus when searching for the called out word. Play the basic game without velcro for a quicker pace. Or add velcro dots to the word cards and fly swatters so the card sticks when swatted for easier scoring. Adjust the difficulty by calling out simple CVC words or longer words from Fry's list. All learners of phonics, including young children, SEN/special needs, ESL etc... Aims and Objectives Some children, when starting to learn about the long /a-e/ sound, will start to make every /a/ into a long /a-e/ sound. While this is common among all children, some children need more help to overcome this difficulty. Therefore, this game has two aims: 1.To help children to be able to hear the long vowel sound a-e in words 2.To help children understand that some words have a short /a/ and some have a long /a-e/; the child must listen to hear which word has which - not guess. How to play: This is a game for two or three players, one of whom should be an adult. The game can be played with either pictures or sounds. Each player takes a game board (either pictures or sounds) which will indicate whether the player should listen for words with a short /a/ sound or a long /a-e/ sound. The adult reads a word on the word card, and the pupils must listen for 'e' or no 'e'?
