I am looking for a geometry center that my students will really want to play with. Learning about shapes can be the part of our math time with this Feed the Monster sorting activity. This activity has been tried out in classrooms and it helps young students learn about 2D and 3D shapes by playing with them. Why I will like this geometry activity: My students will like it: This game has been played many times in classrooms and it is always a success. My students will be just as excited to play with the Monster the time as they were the first time. My students will learn about shapes: It includes 28 different shapes so my students can see many examples of shapes. It has two monsters: One monster is for shapes and one is for solid shapes so my students can see the difference between them. It helps with hand-eye coordination: When my students put the shapes in the monsters mouths they are also practicing their hand-eye coordination. What is in the PDF: Two cute monsters: Big colorful pictures of the 2D. 3D Shape Monsters. 28 shape cards: different shapes like squares and circles and triangles and more. This is a fun and easy game to add to your fractions unit to help students practice working with mixed numbers and improper fractions. Students must demonstrate knowledge of what makes an improper fraction, how to convert an improper fraction into a mixed number, and how to order and compare mixed numbers. I suggest using 10-sided dice (if possible) for a wider variety of outcomes. I encourage my students to use mini-whiteboards for recording their work and doing their calculations. Student Instructions: 1) You and your partner each roll the die two times so you each have two numbers. 2) Use your two numbers to make an IMPROPER FRACTION (which one should be the numerator?). 3) Write down your improper fraction and convert it to a mixed number. 4) Compare with your partner’s mixed number. Which number is bigger? You might have to find a common denominator if the whole numbers are the same. 5) The person with the larger number gets a point. Play until one person has five points. Grades to Use With: This is a simple game that can be an addition to a lesson or fraction review in grades 3-7 when students are working with fractions that have a value greater than one. This Bingo Games #1: 7th Grade Math Review comes with two Bingo Games for 7th grade math reveiw. There are 2 games of 8 questions each. Skills covered are: proportional word problems, distributive property with fractions and decimals, upper and lower quartiles for a set of data, evualte expressions, solve an equation, mean for a set of data, word problems using increase and decrease with negative numbers, probability, trends in patterns with graphs, box and whisker plot, similar triangles, percent with ratios, order of operations with fractions and decimals. Directions for Bingo Game: Have students to make a 4 x 4 game board. They will fill in the answers in random order. This way everyone has a different board but all of the answers. Put up the first 2 questions. When all students finish #1, you can change to the second page, which still has #2 but also #3 for those that have also finished #2. This allows some students to work ahead when ready. When everyone has finished #2, move to the next screen, which has #3 and #4 as some students will be ready for #4. Continue in this way. Students will put a mark in the corner of the square---Don’t have them completely mark out their answers in the first game because they will use this same board in the second game. Students MUST show their work on paper to get credit for a BINGO. For the problems that don’t have work to show, they must explain their answer on paper. The first game uses questions #1-8. In a regular size class there should be 5-6 bingos after this many questions. You can start the second game #9-10 or save that for another class time. Just make sure students save their board because both games use the same board. I like to give a piece of candy (like jolly rancher) for BINGOs. I always help students with their problems since I used BINGO as practice not as an assessment.

How to play Vocab Grab Bag 1.Cut out the vocab cards and place one set of cards in each bag, envelope or container that you are using. 2.Organize students into groups of 3, 4, or 5. I have found that groups of 4 seem to be optimal. 3.Give each student one Job Card. 4.Students go in order, starting with Job 1 until they have completed one round. Do not return the used words to the container. 5. After each round, students rotate jobs, passing the Job Cards in the order you designate. 6. Continue until the teacher stops the game . 7. Alternate option #1: When all word cards have been used, transition to putting the words in alphabetical order, using the Alphabetizing Mat. 8. Alternate option #2: If all word cards have been used, return all the cards to the container and start over again. Teacher tips •Do not skip the praise step, it is important and surprisingly fun! •If you have a student in the very early stages of learning English, consider letting them keep Job 1 or Job 2 for the entire game . •Project the instructions at the front of the room for students to refer to while playing.

Students can celebrate the 100th Day of School by playing this roll to 100 game. Students will have fun and stay engaged while playing this single player or two player game. How to Play: * Single Player Game -- Students will use 1 die to roll. They will color in the number of spaces they rolled and keep going until they reach 100. They will have an opportunity to predict how many rolls it will take and then record the actual number of rolls they made. Students may need different colored crayons or markers to make it easier to count the number of rolls. * Two Player Game - Students can race to see who reaches 100 first by rolling their die and coloring in the appropriate spaces. Students may also take turns rolling on one game board, each coloring their rolls a different color, seeing who covered the most spaces. When to Use: * Independent Game * Partner Activity * Math Center * Morning Work * 100th Day Celebration station or activity Skills Assessed: * Counting to 100 * Recognizing the number rolled on a die * Making predictions * Testing predictions This 100th day roll to 100 game is a now prep activity.
