Allow students to independently practice blending and reading CVC words with these Short I CVC Word Read and Reveal Cards! Teachers will love the independent nature of these cards! What is Included: There are 39 CVC words included in this packet, all with the short I vowel sound in the middle. Included in the packet are illustrated directions on how to put the cards together. How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these short i words. Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. Alphabet Flashcards: Phonetic: Words and Pictures A set of 26 letters with 26 matching pictures to help children learn the letters, their sounds and beginning sounds of words in preparation for learning to read with phonics. There are many ways to use the alphabet flashcards Several activities are suggested: The child can be asked to match the whole set of letters, A-Z, with the matching pictures, by beginning sound. Sound match: Select the sounds you want your pupil to practice - the number can vary according to the needs of the child: find the matching letters and pictures, and either lay them on the table or, for more active children, you could place them around the room for the child to find. Either let the child select/find a picture and then find the sound it begins with, or vice versa. Sound match: Select the sounds you want your pupil to practice - the number can vary according to the needs of the child: find the matching letters and pictures. Place one set, either letters or pictures, on the table, spread out. Hold the other in your hand. Show the child a card from your hand and ask the pupil to find the matching letter/picture. Play I Spy: Place a selection of letters and pictures (not necessarily matching) on the table face up. Say, I spy with my little eye the letter (and say the sound), or something that begins with the sound ... (say the sounds). Play memory match: turn a selection of pictures and their matching letters face down on the table. Take it in turns to choose 2 cards, turn them over and see if they match...replace any that do not - but can you remember where they are for when you need them? Children love this game! Learn the 220 common sight words and 95 nouns from the Dolch Sight Words list, and 1000 modern common sight words from the Fry Sight Words list with this resource. Flash Cards introduce words and promote comprehension through memorization and repetition. They can be used in a group setting or individually for practice. This set includes a teacher guide, the Dolch sight words flash cards, the Fry sight words flash cards, and blank flash cards. These Flash Cards can be used to help students begin their literacy journey. The individual titles included in this BUNDLE are: DOLCH SIGHT WORDS Flash Cards and FRY SIGHT WORDS Flash Cards. About this Combined Resource: This resource includes all 315 Dolch Sight Words and 1000 Fry Sight Words in a Flash Cards format. Organized in groups of 10, teachers can cut out each flash card for easy use with their students. The Flash Cards are separated by grades and nouns. Teachers can choose to focus on cards by grade, or mix them up for an overall activity . Included in this resource are customized origami-styled envelopes that can be used to keep each set of Flash Cards organized. Instructions on how to fold the envelopes can be found on page 4. About Flash Cards: Flash Cards are small cards that have a little amount of information on them. These cards are held up for students to see to help with learning. Flash Cards can be used in groups as drill activities, or alone for private study. Although Flash Cards can contain any form of information, for the purposes of this resource, each Flash Card contains a vocabulary word. Overall, Flash Cards are used as a learning drill to help with memorization through repetition. Students can quickly and easily learn vocabulary words by using Flash Cards in their everyday study. Flash Cards exercise the mental processes of students’ brains. With repeated practice, students will learn to associate words with their spelling. About Dolch Sight Words: In 1948, Edward William Dolch, PhD created his list of the most common 220 words and 95 nouns in children’s books. These words were then divided into grade levels, including pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and verbs. Nouns made up a separate list of 95 words. The list used 220 “service words” that should be easily recognized in order for students to become fluent in reading. The Dolch words are “Sight Words” because many of them cannot be sounded out. Instead, they must be learned by sight. In other words, memorization. These sight words provide a basis for reading at a young age. Students must become familiar with these words as they begin to read in order to become successful readers as they progress through their academic career. About Fry Sight Words: In 1996, Dr. Edward B. Fry expanded on Dolch’s list of 220 Sight Words and 95 common nouns. This list included 1000 of the most common words used in the English language ranked by frequency. Labeled as “Instant Words”, Fry’s list came to be known as “Fry Words”. These words are typically broken down into groups of 100, and separated by grades kindergarten to first grade, second to third grade, and fourth to fifth grade. Learning all 1000 words in this modern list of Sight Words will allow students to be able to read about 90% of the words used in a typical book.

Included in the packet are illustrated directions on how to put the cards together. The diphthongs included in this set are: ew How to Use: Students will get a card for the pile. Students will practice reading the word on the card, using the dots and arrows as a finger guide to reading the word. Once they feel confident that they know the word they read, they will open the card to reveal a picture of the word they read. When to Use: Literacy Center - Students can work independently or with a partner to read these words Morning Tub or Basket - The cards can be placed in a morning bin for students to work on as students arrive to class. Small Group Activity - The teacher can choose a small group of students or a specific group of words for students to work on in a small group setting with the teacher. The fact that the teacher can easily choose which words to include inside a center or activity, allows the teacher to easily differentiate this activity for her students. The bold, colorful, easy to recognize pictures allow students to complete this center independently, by providing pictures they should already recognize that match the words they are practicing to read. The cards do require some prep work to put together, but once created, they will provide a long term center or activity for your classroom. They need to be printed, cut apart and folding into thirds to create the read and reveal nature of this activity.

These reading rings give students simple sentences to introduce them to reading in the format of "V is for ____."
