The reference list ranges from straightforward states like être malade (to be ill) and être pressé(e) (to be in a hurry) to idioms such as être dans les nuages (to daydream) and être sur son trente-et-un (to be dressed to the nines). During play, one student tries to get a teammate to guess the word printed at the top of a card by giving French clues, without using any of the taboo words listed beneath it; teams score a point for each word guessed correctly. Beginning students can be allowed to use the taboo words themselves as a scaffold, while more advanced students play by the standard no-taboo-word rule. The 31 expression cards and one title card are provided in both a full-color and a black-and-white version for printing, cutting, and laminating.
