Stempathy Scenarios & Worksheet

Stempathy Scenarios & Worksheet
STEM, Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Grade 2, 3, 4, 5, Activities

In this resource, you will get 24 different stempathy scenarios. Stempathy is STEM plus Empathy combined. For this activity, you will need Legos or the generic brand (which is cheaper). I purchased 2000 for 24-25 students to get their own bag or box of bricks. Each scenario includes a child relatable problem plus discussion questions about how someone is feeling and why solving the problem is important. Since there are 24 scenarios, you can give everyone in your class one of them and give them their own set of Lego bricks or generic bricks. This resource can also be used for centers, group work, or partner tasks. Each student also can have a worksheet (included) which prompts them to answer the discussion questions and draft a design of their solution. Students can combine creativity and empathy in this resource. Some of the scenarios are; a person is in a wheelchair and there are stairs during a fire drill, a dog is not longer able to jump up into the car, a person gets too distracted in class and needs a quieter space, the local food bank is short on veggies and fruits and needs a structure to growth fresh produce, a person is often disorganized and loses their supplies and homework and needs an organizing system, students need a structure to protect them from the hot sun and wet rain, and many more. If you teach STEM or SEL classes, this is a great way to have a multidisciplinary lesson that is hands on, engaging, and fun for kids. There is no right or wrong answer and students can really put themselves in others' shoes in this resource. I am a school counselor and work with students who are in kindergarten through 8th grade. SEL Boom Deck-What Can I Control and Not Control? Audio and Handout!

SEL Boom Deck-What Can I Control and Not Control? Audio and Handout!
Special Resources, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Preschool, Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, Activities

In this SEL Boom Deck, students will learn about things they can and cannot control. This is an important skill in self-regulation, relationship skills, and self-awareness. There is audio for each card so reading is not required. There are 46 Boom cards and 43 are task cards. The first 3 cards go over the concepts and the directions. Some of the in control examples are; a child is bored in class, a child make a choice that got them late for school, a child raised his hand to ask for help, a child studied for a test and did well on it, a child took something after someone dared them too, and many more. Some examples for the out of control concept are; a child's balloon was popped from a tree branch, there was a thunder storm, a family is moving, a child is walking in the rain, a child got a toy grabbed by another class member, a child is stuck in traffic and worried they will be late, a child did not get the lead role in a play, and more. After students participate in the Boom deck, they can write and draw their own examples of things they can and cannot control. There is a also a cute airplane that students can color and draw themselves being the pilot of their own plane (and mood, actions, feelings, etc.) This Boom deck can be something students do whole group (there enough cards for each student to do an example) or in centers , or you could assign this individually for homework. If there is an example of someone caught in a situation that causes them to feel upset regardless of whether they can or cannot control it, students are prompted by another card to help the person in the example feel better and do some things that they can control to help themselves. Please see Boom Deck's Terms of Use located on their website.

Guided Reading Level H - Clean Hands, Healthy Bodies

Guided Reading Level H - Clean Hands, Healthy Bodies
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Health, P.E. & Health, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Resources, Life Skills, Science, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments

This Guided Reading Book - Clean Hands, Healthy Bodies (Level H) includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. The overall goal is to use the level/color to pick books for several smaller groups. To qualify for a certain level, a student is expected to read a book from that level with about 90–94% accuracy. If a student is consistently accurate and understands, move up a level. If the student is struggling at that level, drop down and add more support. Each student will improve at completely different rates, but it is generally one of the best ways to check progress across the class. DOWNLOAD THE CATALOG TO VIEW ALL GUIDED READING BOOKS AVAILABLE (SORTED LEVELS A-Z) Pre-Reading Question (x1) Teacher asks the prompt aloud, can be while showing the cover or first page. Students share what they already know, or make educated guesses from the cover. Prompt them to use the target vocabulary. Write some of their responses on the board to look back at during the reading. Vocabulary Words (x5) Introduce the five words, best doing it one at a time. Start by saying it, while students repeat and then see if anyone knows what it means before reading further. Read through the meaning and try to briefly connect each word to a picture or gesture so it’s meaningful. Ask students to flip through the book pages and point to where they see each of the vocabulary words. While reading the book pause upon coming across one of the vocab words or read the sentence twice to make sure students understand the word has appeared. Optional: Ask students to raise hands whenever they see/hear one of the new words. Guided Reading Pages (x10) Check the book snapshot (below) for: primary topic - do you need to prep extra reading or intro materials on this? what is taught best - decide on 1-2 bullets to focus on, use the prompt or words provided here for best results. learning goals - what you are checking for students to be able to do after the session, elicit answers using prompts or words provided. key vocabulary (see section above). questions overview - so you know what is coming up and if you need to prep extra materials to assist understanding. Run the lesson You may have already looked at a few of the pages together, but you can show them some of the pictures again first to set meaning. Depending on how much time you have and how familiar your students are with guided reading class, you may want to read the book aloud first with the group first. Students whisper or partner read, while you listen in. If time, do it as a group, one student reading a page each. Use the guided page’s prompts to coach: “Check the picture / does it make sense?” “Point under the words / try the first sound” “Reread the sentence smoothly”. Try to focus more on one student per session (rotating every time), so you can work out if they are ready to move up or need to move down a level. Comprehension Questions (back cover x3) This is your way to check that students didn’t just say the words, but actually understood the text. First, let students answer by pointing to the page/picture and saying a short sentence. After any answer, follow with: “Show me where you found that in the text.” In bigger groups, have partners answer first (10–20 seconds), then call on 2–3 students to share. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: Clean Hands, Healthy Bodies Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: Health & Safety / Science Primary Topic: When and how to wash hands to stop germs Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): H What This Book Teaches Best Why washing hands matters: it “keeps germs away” and helps prevent germs from spreading to other people. When to wash hands (before eating, after outdoor play, after using the toilet, after playing with a pet). How to wash hands step-by-step (wet with clean running water, use soap, scrub all areas, rinse, dry). A key procedure detail: scrubbing should last “twenty seconds” to remove germs. The idea of healthy habits: making handwashing a regular habit “protects everyone.” Learning Goals Students will explain one reason the book gives for washing hands, using a detail from the text. SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning with SEL Coloring Pages

SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning with SEL Coloring Pages
Special Resources, Life Skills, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Speech Therapy, Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Centers, Games, Worksheets & Printables, Flashcards, Worksheets, Coloring Pages

In this SEL product, you will get SEL Flashcards for Social Emotional Learning. You will also get SEL coloring pages because there are two different pages of emotions/feelings. Both pages have a black and white version and a color version. The black and white version allows your students to color their own faces and images. The emotions listed are; happy, sad, silly, proud, shy confused, scared, excited, angry, tired, loving, sick, disgusted, cry, jealous, disappointed. These flashcards can be used for so many purposes. I have used these flashcards for Go Fish games where the students have to ask for a certain feeling. You will need to make two copies of the colored emotions poster to make this game work. If a student asks for "angry" and the student they asked has it, that student give the card to the one who asked and that student places the match down on the table and names a time they felt angry. I have also used this resource for memory games. You would, again, make two copies of each emotion. Then you would mix up the cards and place them face down (I would highly recommend cardstock) in a random order. Students then would choose two cards and reveal the emotion cards. If they are a match, then the student can share when they have felt that way. If it is not a match, they would place the cards face down again the the next student would take a turn. This is a fun and interactive game but also helps students discuss their feelings in a non-threatening way. This resource can be used as a whole class activity where students color their flashcards and then cut them out. They can randomly pick a card and name a time they felt that way. This can also be used as a center activity for Go Fish or Memory (as I described above). The ways to use these Emotion SEL Flashcards are endless!

Guided Reading Level N - The Power of the Team (with Lesson Plan)

Guided Reading Level N - The Power of the Team (with Lesson Plan)
ELA, Resources for Teachers, Reading Comprehension, Reading, Language Development, P.E. & Health, Sports, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Special Resources, Physical Education, Grade 2, 3, 4, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Teacher Tools, Centers, Activities, Literacy Readers, Quizzes, Quizzes and Tests, Assessments

This Guided Reading Book - The Power of the Team (Level N) with lesson plan includes: Guided Reading Color Label (front cover x1) This is a quick way to match the book’s demands to what students can generally handle.. Differentiation tips: Emerging speakers/struggling readers: oral + pointing On-level: oral in a full sentence Higher: one written sentence or draw + label Book Snapshot Title: The Power of the Team Genre: Nonfiction (informational) Subject: SEL / Physical Education / Reading Primary Topic: Teamwork skills that help teams succeed Estimated Guided Reading Level (A–Z): N What This Book Teaches Best Teamwork and shared goals: Teamwork happens when people work together to reach a common goal and play “for the whole group.” Communication in fast-paced play: Players use loud voices or hand signals to share information so everyone knows what to do next. Trust and cooperation through passing: Passing the ball (or puck) makes it harder for the other team to take it and shows teammates trust each other. Support and encouragement: Teammates help each other after mistakes and keep spirits high when things get difficult. Planning, practice, and coordination: Teams use strategy, practice together, and coordinate timing (like passing a relay baton) to perform smoothly. Learning Goals Students will explain what teamwork is and what it helps a team reach, using details from the text. Students will describe how communication helps a team during a fast-paced game. Students will explain why passing is important and what it shows about trust on a team. Students will describe ways teammates support one another with encouragement when someone struggles or makes a mistake. Students will explain how strategy and practice help a team work “like a single machine.” Students will describe how coordination and shared defense help teams succeed. Key Vocabulary From the Text cooperation — working together to reach a goal. vital — very important. encouragement — kind support that helps someone keep trying. strategy — a plan for the best way to play. coordination — moving and working together at the right time. Discussion Prompts Pre-reading question: How can working together help a team do better in a sport? Comprehension questions: What does the text say teamwork helps a group of people reach? According to the text, what do players use to share information during a fast-paced game? What does the text say teamwork teaches people how to be in every game they play? Printing Tips 1. Let's Talk Feelings SEL Presentation
Special Resources, Life Skills, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Social Skills, Special Education Needs (SEN), Speech Therapy, Preschool, Kindergarten, Grade 1, 2, 3, Activities, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets, Presentations, Teacher Tools, Lesson Plans

In this SEL presentation, you will get a 5 slide Google Slide Presentation. This was originally created for remote learning, however you can adapt this for in the classroom as well. On the second slide, there is a read aloud that I created for the book My Cold Plum Lemon Pie Bluesy Mood by Tameka Brown. This is a wonderful book about a boy with many different feelings, emotions, and moods throughout the book. On the 3rd slide, there is access to a digital spinner with many different feelings on it. Once you click on the spinner in presentation mode, it will create a new tab, scroll down for the large spinner with a variety of feelings on it. When you click on the spinner, it will move and make spinner sounds. You can choose a student to come to the board or your computer to click it to stop. When it stops there will be a feeling on the screen. You can have students turn and talk about when they have felt that way, you could have them talk in groups, you could do it whole classroom and students can raise their hand. Play as many rounds as you have time for. Next on slide 4 the students can do a feelings scavenger hunt where they find something in the classroom (or home if it remote) that reminds them of that feeling. There is animated picture of feelings that come up on the screen. This gets kids up and moving in the classroom and having fun. Finally, on the last slide you will have access to a homework sheet to pass out to students called Inside/Outside Feelings Scavenger Hunt. Students can take this home and fill it out. They will answer prompts for; That makes you feel silly?, What reminds you of a trip, etc. There are 12 prompts for them to answer.
