This lesson can best be used in groups, or in whole group lessons where students can discuss with partners how they can be patient.I have found more success with this lesson in small groups and have even used this lesson to help teach the art of patience to older students that might need a refresher. In this social emotional (SEL) activity and SEL coloring pages, you will get a lesson plan on teaching students how to cope with change, strong feelings, and other challenges that come their way. This is such an important skill for students to learn so they can weather the ups and downs of childhood. They will create a paper toolbox, learn 4 different categories of coping, and write/draw with a prompt on a separate handout. The coping skills they will learn about are; slow breathing, say what you see, hear, and feel, think of something to look forward to, and do what you enjoy. This is most suitable for kindergarten, first, second and third grades. There is some reading required but teachers and parents can help the students understand what each skill is. There are visuals on the coping skill sheets as well. There is a page of directions and a link to a video on belly breathing. This unit is suited for first graders in a simple, yet accurate manner to increase understanding of this disease on what is the disease, how it started, how it spread throughout the world, and how society responded to this disease in keeping people safe. There are also opportunities for children to read some of the words, learn new vocabulary words, trace sentences, and they will even draw their own "novel" virus. Safe and Unsafe Secrets – Personal Safety Lesson

This resource is a personal safety lesson specifically about safe and unsafe secrets. This is such an important skill to learn as asking children to keep unsafe secrets is part of the grooming process from child molesters. This is a key lesson in preventing childhood abuse. In this lesson, you will have a 9-slide Google slide presentation. The flow of the lesson is self-explanatory and there are slide notes to guide you on what to have ready for the students, what to print off, and what handouts should also go home with students. The first part of the lesson is asking students what are words and actions that cause them to feel happy or sad. The next part is a lesson about red light and green light (unsafe and safe) secrets. There are 6 examples the teacher or counselor will read and students will hold up either the red or green light (these handouts are provided). The next step is reviewing safety steps with the students in case someone is asking them to keep an unsafe secret. Students are encouraged to role-play these steps. Lastly, students will draw 2 safe adults besides their parents. The safety steps and safe adult' drawings should go home with students to share with their parents or guardians. After the 9-slide presentation, there are 3 handouts to copy and print out for students in preparation for the lesson. Read the slide show thoroughly before teaching this lesson so you will understand the flow of the lesson and the different activities. Because this is a Google Slide resource, you will be downloading a PDF and clicking on the image on the PDF to access the slide presentation. Once you are prompted to "make a copy", click "yes" and make a copy. You will then have access to the product. Enjoy!

In this product, you will get a Google Slides lesson with SEL coloring pages and Writing prompts discussing what causes drama among friends, what makes things worse (heats it & stirs it up) and what makes things better (what cools it down). There are 10 situations to discuss as a class. You can have students use fingers (1-5) or move to stations around the room to choose what they would do in different situations. Finally, there is a reflection and a coloring activity to reinforce the importance of being drama-free. This lesson will address friendship skills, relationship skills as well as social awareness. You can use this for whole-classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and even one on one counseling. There are descriptions of what heats up (fuels) drama among friends as well as what de-escalates friendship problems. There is a 19-slide presentation using Google Slides. In the PDF, you just need to click on the image of the main cover image. This is the image of a collection of the slide presentation, the reflection sheet, as well as the mindfulness coloring activity sheet. There are slide notes on every page. Please read each slide note for each slide. This will help you have a seamless lesson with very little prep and no need to prepare for your SEL lesson. The heat-up reasons are; involving other people as messengers, bringing up past situations, gossiping, using mean words, and blaming others. The cooldown strategies are; owning your stuff (taking responsibility for your own actions), sharing your own feelings, sticking to the current situation, listening to the other person's perspective, and calming down before you react. This is a great lesson to use if you are finding students have difficulty solving their own problems among their friendship groups, small groups for girls (in particular), or hosting lunch bunch groups for girls. This is not gender specific so you can use it for both genders if needed.
