Dividing Mixed Numbers / Mixed Fractions
Math, Fractions, Multiplication and Division, Grade 5, Worksheets & Printables, Worksheets
The division of fractions combines a number of concepts. 1. Converting between fractions and mixed numbers 2. Finding the largest common factor for fraction simplification 3. Applying the keep-change-flip method for fraction division The keep-change-flip approach, also known as the reciprocal method, is the core strategy for dividing fractions. This is covered initially with Dividing Fractions and is highly recommended that you start with this resource first as a preparation for working with mixed numbers / mixed fractions The Worksheet Sets are as follows, with the aim to take students through a number of stages, starting as simply as possible and gradually working through to word problems. 1. Dividing a Mixed Number by an Integer 2. Dividing a Mixed Number by a Proper or Improper Fraction 3. Division with 2 Mixed Numbers 4. Word Problems The accompanying guide explains the reasoning behind the keep-change-flip strategy, providing context and meaning to the process. How many Worksheets in each Set ? Almost unlimited. At the click of a button all numbers are randomised, so the questions change every time. This will allow you to create as many new worksheets you will need for practice throughout the year (classwork, homework, revision, fillers etc) or even give small groups of students in your class different sets of questions either at the same level or differentiated. There will certainly be enough to ensure fluency in this topic. As these worksheets need little explanation, they are ideal if you need to leave work for a replacement teacher. Answers can be found on the second page of every worksheet, automatically generated when you create a new worksheet. Note These resources are PDF documents and work with the official Adobe Acrobat Reader on Windows or Mac computers with the randomising buttons also working via a touchscreen (PC or Mac) or on an Interactive Whiteboard.
